Why Don'T more people with COPD speak out about their condition?
Many experts think that shame or guilt may be part of the reason.
People with COPD think that others blame them for having this disease, Dr Doherty said. But this should not be the case.
Many chronic diseases are brought on, or made worse, by lifestyle factors. These may include eating too much, lack of exercise,poor dietary choices, or too much stress, even some cancers.
The people who are effected by COPD need and deserve help.

We are not alone in our illness, and I believe that many new meds and discovery's for new treatments are close and this offers hope.
We are no different than the cancer patient who needs help, hope and understanding with out shame and Guilt.

Talk about your illness to the people around you, tell them about the new study that shows that genetics plays a part in our illness. As Sessame said write to our congress men, senators, and governors let them know we are not ashamed of our illness and we want and deserve funding from the government, awareness is our greatest hope for a cure, and it is possible...

I think the day will come and you will and I will see this day Patti, when people dont look at us and say things like you did it to your self, but instead will say I am so very sorry that you were genetically set up for this illness....
I would print out the facts, dont talk, just hand them the facts. Keep a copy in your pocket book. But first hand it out to your family and close friends, so they just know the facts and there is no question.
The times they are a changing, and we will see and feel these changes.
