Hmmm. I've never had it, but the side effects look pretty tough if you are one of the people that have reactions to it. I've pretty much decided that when the side effects are as bad as the disease, I'll stick to nature's way...

Geo, I have used theophyline for years, currently i take 200 twice a day. At one point it was as high as 500mg twice a day. It in conjunction to the rest of the drugs I take seems to have a positive impact. Your doctor will schedule you for periodic blood tests to ensure that you dont get an elevated level. Which can be harmful to your liver. -- Regards Bill

I took theophyline for a short period of time-3-4 months. I was never able to tell it did a thing for me. I started on Symbicort and I believe my doctor said I shouldn't take Symbicort and theophyline together. It has some serious side effects though.

Geo....when I was hospitalized for the first time nearly 2 years ago and diagnosed with emphy I was put on theophyline right away . I stayed on it for about 9 months....finally had to get off of it because I was having severe stomach problems from taking it. After doing much research I requested to be taken off of it and asked my pulmo dr. why I had been put on such an older drug right from the beginning and he told me it was because I was in such dire shape when I was admitted into the hospital. He didn't seem too pleased with me dc ing the drug but agreed and we went strickly with inhalers. I have had good luck with just the Symbicort and Spiriva. Albuterol for a rescue . I am on o2 always at nite and mostly during the day if I need it.

Thanks for the help, I'm on symbicort, and spriva, my last dr. visit on Wed he added the theophyline 200 mg once a day. I may try it for 30 days and see if I can get over this bad spell. Thank you again for the help, yall are such a blessing.
