I too am an avid golfer. I play to an 8 hcp and find that when I'm on the range now, when I hit my mid irons to fairway metals, I can only hit maybe, 3 shots before I have to sit down and rest. And my driver with my pre-shot routine, two hits at the most before I sit. From my 9 iron down to my wedges I can hit at least 6 shots before I have to stop in a standing position to regain my breath. SUX. When I play, I'm ok walking to the tee box as long as there isn't a steep long flight of steps, hitting my fairway and approach shots, I was never a big lots of practice swings before I hit the ball golfer, and my pre-putt routine I have no problem. A little winded, but not enough to concern my group. Now if I have to hit a greenside bunker shot, then I'll get winded after the whole routine is finished which includes raking the trap and walking up to the green to mark my ball. Then I get very winded and have to take a knee or sit. SUX.
I find myself spending minimum time at the range before I play. I could never play without warming up. I'm not on a portable O2 yet, but when I do, I'll still play the game which I love and the excercise will do us good. Just being outside is a joy.
The hell with those guys that are avoiding you. Stick with your COPD routine, keep your head down, trust your swing and hit em straight. Let me know where you live and if I'm ever in your neck of the woods I'll contact you and we'll go play 18.
Fore Please...Funtimer is on the tee.
