We had a 4 foot green iguana using our pool as a toilet.
It took me 3 months to finally catch that ugly beast and haul him down to a river.

Jona- I went so far as to contact a farmer in Australia who had a problem with Hares. He explained to me how to make an electrocution fence to zap the green beast. Built the fence but
caught the beast before we could try it out.

Back in the good old days, when I could afford Cable TV------I saw a special on how to prevent Raccoons from getting in a Koi pond.
It was on the Home/Gardening Channel. They were trying to help this homeowner that built this gorgeous Koi pond and surrounding landscaping. They wanted to find a humane way to keep the raccoons out. They set up video cameras to find the most effective way. It turned out to be some kind of light/ sound system that came on when it detected motion. They tried many things. Sadly, the thing that worked-------they did a follow-up show on.
That motion sensing light and sound system scared off raccoons for quite awhile------then the raccoons were SO smart they figured out a way to get around that system without being detected. It was fascinating to watch both of those shows.
I know from personal experience that raccoons are smart------I just never realized how smart they actually are.

Note: For those like myself that believe the animal life was here first and that WE HAVE ENCROACHED on them------you may be
surprised to know that the raccoon population is out of control
in very large cities. Yes, it is true. Watched a special on Public
Broadcasting Channel-----about raccoons. I learned things that
I never knew. They prefer large populated areas----because to
the vast food sources they can find. They do not want to live
in the country, like I thought. I live in rural Oregon and get really
riled when a black bear wanders down from hills, or people shoot and kill wildlife-----when we have take their home away from them.
I thought raccoons liked rural Oregon-----when actually they really prefer to live in very large metropolitan areas---because there is more food. Hope my learning more about raccoons has been a help to someone out there?

I know it would be a pain, but if you put a screen cover over your pond at dark, it will help. If you see the racoons in the daytime, be careful. We have had many rabid ones around here.
I gave up on my pond years ago. Have a temporary border here now that wants to clean it up and restock it.

The people that I know who have koi ponds fight the coons too,,, suggestions are: a fence around the pond, and/or a chicken wire screen over the pond. Not much help I guess, and yes, coons can be mean. We see almost as many more coons than deer running around at night and we see plenty of deer. I backed into my driveway one night and there was a coon on a tree behind my car yelling at me to turn those lights off,,,lol. We had one staring in the office door (glass) one night not too long ago,,,,we see lots of critters around here.

LOL you guys, I am not over my head, Rocky will be over his head if he puts one filthy paw in the new pond. Besides I may not have fish. I need a place for my water plants and fountains.

This is a very smart critter. I am surprised that he does not use a disguise like a mustache and glasses when he comes over. He can sure recognize me by just looking at me.

I have a panic room Jona, I put 12" pvc flex pipes in the bottom of the pond so the fish can swim in these long tubes to hide from the raccoon.

But we had a problem with wabbits...yup watbbits!
What my husband did is get these very very strong peppers and ground them up in my mixer....not too happy about using my mixure.
OK, he put something some chees cloth on top of one of my bowls and stranged it.
Then pour the juice into his hudson sparyer..........he sprayed all the plants that these bugers were eating on...........and they didn't like it so much that they went back to their homes and told all their family not to come back to our yard.

So why not try it on coons but I'm not sure how to spray fish yet?

aww send him to me , I would love to see a raccoon in my garden or a green iguana , all we get here in the uk is sparrows and starlings

I would love to send him to you Pete. I have opossums, raccoons, iguana, lizards, geckos, squirrels, all kinds of birds and cranes.
I have the neighbors cats and mice. Mice don't hang out here too long with the cats.......... Take your pick..
