ADL - They call that Activities for Daily Living. These are things we all have to do just to survive. Like get up, eat, eliminate, take our medication.
The main muscle that keeps us mobile is the thigh muscle. That is the muscle that allows you to get out of the chair. If you can't get out of the chair you start decling fast. It is critical for us to keep that muscle working for us. Once we can't get out of the chair we soon will not be able to take care of our ADL's and Someone Else Will Have To Do Them For Us. NURSING HOME HERE WE COME.
I realize most of us can't just do 50 squats a day or even 1 squat, but most of us can stand at the counter and bend our knees and straighten up again. Start doing anything to start strenghtening that muscle. Another thing I learned, It is Never Too Late To Regain Strength!!!

I like what Sassyme said about the muscle requiring more oxygent. The stronger you get the more red blood cells your body will make to carry more oxygen. It's a win win.
