I have three dogs and have COPD - the first month or so i had issues but that went away. They are standard daschunds and they have helped me so much - i could not be without them.

If I didn't have my little Gabby (chihuahua) I would already be gone. Best little buddy I have ever had and cheers me up all the time. Little thing so little trouble with most everything. You just have to live!

Have to agree with Denny. Katie Joy brings laughter to my days with her antics. Katie lies in bed with me and comforts me. Katie is like having a two year old child; and just imagine my luck at seeing the world through her eyes? She is filled with curiosity that is endless. Katie adds to my life; and keeps me alive.

I hate to say but once I got all the cats out of the house my breathing did improve. I had about 3 in the house. I now have about 20 feral cats that I feed and we have about 5 new kittens now. They all stay out side. I love watching them play they stay on my back porch and I made a shelter for them. It is hard to have animals with allergies.

We got our dog from lab rescue. She is wonderful. Our friend works with golden retriever rescue. He said something about foster-parenting a dog to see if the dog is a good fit. I thought that was interesting. Also have a friend that got their dog from the seeing-eye-dog training group. I guess the dog did something wrong, like eat out of their neighbor's bowl, so it needed a profession adjustment. Already mostly trained. They come to your home to make sure you would be good doggy parents. Good luck!

I have 3 mini dachshunds & would be lost without them! Short hair & low shedding. Someone told me cats shed much more then dogs, but I don't know.

My previous dog was a short-haired Dachshund. He was an incredible dog. He rarely shed. I miss him so much. He lived until he was 14 years old; even with epilepsy. My current dog was a gift from Disability Advocates for Independent Living.
Many studies have been done on pet ownership. Pets can lower our blood pressure; provide companionship; perform tasks to help those with Epilepsy; etc.
I have never lived without, at least, one dog. I love dogs; plain and simple.

Thank you everyone for your inputs. My wife and I will discuss our options carefully, and I a sure that we will be able to find the perfect pet for us. You guys are great.
