First I want to say hi to everyone out there and thank those who noticed that Ruthie had not posted for a good while. It's been one thing after another since last June and not all of it my own health problems. In January it did become my problems cause I started the first week of the year with pneumonia in both lungs. When I got out of the hospital I had 5 days when they set me up for home rehab and I managed to get some type of horribly respiratory flu - the cough was awful and I couldn't sleep for it. Went to the ER and "yeap" tested positive for flu although I had a flu shot early in the season. I coughed my way through that one on antibiotics and steroids then re-started rehab. Got 8 days and back to the ER with another bout of what turned out to be "yeap" - flu. Atibiotics and steroids again and have now finished FINALLY my rehab and feel like I am going to live. Gaining energy every days and trying - given this horrible weather and extreme cold to get some exercise and avoid catching anything by going nowhere. This is going to stop because when we get a day that's warm enough I'm getting out of this house! Hope everyone else out there has managed to stay away from diseases this winter. They hit us really hard since we all have a weak spot to begin with. A good while back someone out here commented about finding something they used (and this is brand new for me since the hospital) because they got scabs in their nose from their canula. If anyone uses something in particular besides plain Vaseline and a Q-tip, I would deeply appreciate their suggestions. Thanks to all and stay well

I use Ayr nasal gel. I get it at walmart.
It is very important that you NEVER put a petroleum based product like vaseline or vicks, etc in your nostrils. Petroleum based products can cause lipoid pneumonia which is very nasty. Instead use water based products like Ayr, saline nasal sprays or even K-Y Jelly.

i also like the ayr gel, but when i have scabs in my nose it can burn like hell ---i assume it is the salt?
so when i have scabs i use the ro-ez-it lotion that my 02 company furninshes as it is nicer to use,
i also use neosporin, but in the creme, not the ointment (use thinly!) a few times a day as that seems to help heal when sores are bad.

Sorry to hear about your rounds of pneumonia and flu !! That is terrible his year with the mutant flu that the shot does not cover. I also have become a hermit, and like you, I am so anxious to get out. I will be going to Corpus Christi soon to visit my grandson for a few weeks.
I may have to wear a mask the entire time, but I want out of here.
