symbicort gave me severe heart palpitations chronic thrush I had to stop it after a few weeks.....any of the inhalers can give you nausea.especially if taken on an empty stomach....

gosh, that makes me wonder if ADC medicine is equivalent to our pharmacy brands.

it sounds like something was much different in the 2 symbicorts---gosh, if you have that reaction, that could be bad if you were to be hospitalized or something & they gave you "the real thing."

I have a medic alert bracelet warning of allergies & reactions to meds, but i can't figure out how you could put reaction to "american" symbicort, but not "Indian" symbicort.
I would talk to my dr about this~~~could be a good warning to have a plan in place for alternative use.

Was there any difference in the spiriva?

i have been inhaling name brand symbicort for over five years with no side effects. you said " after the third dose. " did you mean the first dose of the second day? of course i`m sure you know it`s only supposed to be inhaled twice in one day, right? i guess if you inhaled three in one day, maybe you were od`ing on symbicort. was the name brand outdated? maybe it was something else. was the train going too fast? did you eat a burger king burger? drink a glass of sour milk? watch a bad episode of saturday night live? hear a maroon 5 song on the radio? think about the price of copd drugs in the usa? read another annoying story about bruce jenner? watch your favorite half hour sit-com show and figure out that 15 minutes of it are commercials? { i don`t WANT to buy a car! } get a phone call from a telemarketer trying to sell you windows? { when i get that phone call i always tell them how HAPPY i am that they called because i don`t have any windows in my house and i always wondered where people got them...they STILL call back! } so you see, it might have been any number of things. but you feel good now so that`s cool! BREATHE IN.....BREATHE OUT.....

I have be inhaling Symbicort for over 6 years (every 12 hours) it has worked for me. You do need to rinse after using.

I never have any other Meds that I take within 2 hours of the Symbicort. That could be a problem.

It was also my understanding that Symbicort is a twice a day inhaler...no more than that.

I'm emphasizing what's been asked i.e. are you taking the symbicort as prescribed - ADC or not? Hope so... I'm confused about "after the third dose." I've been taking Symbicort as prescribed for a few years. No nausea, but I don't tend to be nauseous no matter what. I don't taste or smell symbicort. (I haven't tried the similar inhaler from ADC, though)

I am with the others in the fact I have taken Symbicort for 5-6 years and have never had a problem, I also order from ADC, and keep a real symbicort handy for emergiences and have switched between the two with in the same week, and never had a problem. If anything, it sometimes feels like the ADC one does not open me enough. Did you take the ADC one then maybe forget and took the symbicort regular all the same day? I would check with your doctor, but these things (adverse effects, ect) are usually showing up the first few times we do a med, or stop a med, not after years of use...
It also could have been there is not that much meds in the ADC inhaler, as is in the Symbicort, so for once you got a real dose. I too am concerned about that 3 rd dose. and between San Marcos and Fort worth, you wuld only need one dose if even that. They are to be spaced 12 hours apart, twice a day. No, never smelled medicinal, never nausea... Hugs

The very last idea I can come up with is there very rare thought that you got an inhaler with bad medicine in it, maybe expired? Take it to your pharmacy and have the pharmacist check it out.

Symbicort comes in 2 strengths. The lower strength I used 2 puffs AM/PM. The super strength I use 1 puff AM/PM. Possibly the strength varied between the 2 brands.

I did the usual 2 puffs twice daily so I guess to be more exact it would have been after the 6th puff (the morning of the second day).
I have shown my ADC inhalers to my pulmno. and he said to only use 1 puff twice a day because my ADC inhaler is stronger.
I would assume that each and every one of you who uses ADC medicines would bring them to their pulmno. for OK.
The TIOVA is the exact same he said as the Spiriva.
I am very bad about not eating anything in the morning and the chances are excellent that I used the inhaler on an empty stomach....especially if I was feeling queasy and on a trip. I remember all the smells of bar-b-q and cow crap and funnel cakes, etc....was strong in the air the afternoon before while I was walking around checking out the stockyards. Might have even been the anxiety of the trip because I was so terribly afraid I would get sick....maybe a self fulfilling prophesy.
There is a chemical taste in the name brand Symbicort that is NOT there in the ADC inhaler.
Thank God for ADC!

BTW....the inhaler isn't expired. It is a sample my pulmno. gave me.

i looked up symbicort when you said there are 2 sizes=
check it out; you were getting twice the amount of the 2nd med when you changed;
SYMBICORT 80/4.5
(budesonide 80 mcg and formoterol fumarate dihydrate
4.5 mcg) Inhalation Aerosol
SYMBICORT 160/4.5
(budesonide 160 mcg and formoterol fumarate dihydrate
4.5 mcg) Inhalation Aerosol

so doing 2 puffs vs. 1 puff you would be getting 160mg budesonide each time, but 9mg of formoterol fumarate dihydrate with 2 puffs & 4.5mg with 1 puff;
maybe it is that 2nd ingredient that being doubled caused it???

anyway, glad you are okay. Keep us updated if you figure out the cause (i just love a good mystery ;) )

Taste? Do you use a spacer? With a spacer there shouldn't be a taste as the powder doesn't/shouldn't get trapped inside your mouth, but is directed toward the back of your throat. I haven't heard of anyone taking only one inhalation, but it is possible that what you have is stronger than what you're used to. I'd compare the two for specifications to make sure it adds up - maybe your pharmacist could help.
