5 yrs ago, a bronchoscopy culture identified mycobacterium avium in my lungs along with my emphysema. They knew little about the cause back then. Now I'm reading it may be coming from showerheads and the spray from showers. Tx. at that time was 6-18 months of multiple antibiotics which could eliminate it, or not, or it could return. Since it is very slow growing, and the side effects of so many antibiotics over such a long period of time seemed overwhelming, we elected not to treat it. Anyone else have this little stinker of a bacteria? What tx did you have? The symptoms are the same as for emphysema, so you can't know which has had the most ill effect on you.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

ps i wonder if tying a plastic bag onto the showerhead with limeaway in it, would help make it safer? hope so.

I was also diagnosed with Mycobacterium Avium Complex (MAC) a year and a half ago! Because of severity of side effects from treatment meds, I also refused to take them! There were 6 different types I was supposed to take. Still question my decision! Don't know if I ever got rid of it. It's a serious infection for Emphysema patients and although it is more common in AIDS patients, it is becoming more prevalent in non-aids, lung disease sufferers. *I don't believe the "shower-head thing", has anything to do with it! That's kinda like "the chicken-little" theory! If I worried about what every little thing might do to me, I would never be able to make it through the challenges I wake up with every day!
