I haven't posted in a coons age since I don't have internet at my apartment but I read posts every chance I get.
I have been muddleling along until yesterday when I had an attack at work. I am now in the hospital for my second COPD admission. My last was in 2012. It hasn't been peaches and cream since then but yesterday while putting up the mail my stats dropped to 84 O2 and heart went up to 153 and I almost passed out. Yes I was wearing my 02 and had even kicked it up from prescribed 2L to 3lL I had to lock up my post office and call for a ride to the hospital. I feel better already. LOTS of steroids and I'm already ready to climb the walls but I have at least another 4 days here.
I applied to University hospital in san antonio for a lung transplant back in december but i havent heard anything from them. Everyone says just call them but if they say no im afraid i will just give up because I hate myself the way I am now. At least cancer people have the hope of remission but for me tomorrow will be worse than today and the next day will be worse than tomorrow. San Antonio hospital is my hope for remission and I don't want to give it up. I barely have any stamina left and people get so impatient with me because I can't keep up. I'm still trying to work part time so I can keep my federal employee insurance. I also just got Medicare and even Medicare last month thinking surely San Antonio hospital would say YES when they knew they would get paid.
This disease has taken just about everything I have. I used to have a killer body but now I look like a freak. My lungs are so big I can barely eat anymore. My middle is so big I look pregnant but the rest of me has become so scrawny that my skin sags. I will be 63 on the 29th of this month. I can't walk a block anymore but I refuse to use a cart to ride in. My symbicort and spriva and albuteral do nothing to help me and wearing 02 doesn't make me feel any stronger.

I belong to another lung disease board & several have gotten lung transplants. It seems to be a long and tedious process to go thru, but a miracle for those who have made the complete journey.
My prayers are with you.
One warning though, their cutoff age is 70.. When my doctor applied for me, I was 73 with no other health problems so I would have been a good candidate but it was absolute that no one over 70 would goon the list.
This is not the criteria for all Transplant Departments but I live in San Antonio and I would not have had to move to a new town.
San Marcos will probably be acceptable as far as distance. I wish you luck and I would continue to follow up and call them.
Although our Local transplant hospital does around 80 a year, the waiting list is huge....The only hope for people with all over Emphesema is the Endobronchial Valves and so far the few done in Aust, have been far from successful,,,,,So i have decided to just live out my life with the devil know..
