Hey pete would you be willing to share the e-mail or your source to the study group? Why I ask is that I had taken Doxycycline for a urinary track infection a few years ago and after the 10 days I felt like a new person. My shortness of breath was almost gone and my breathing itself had improved.
I communicated this to my pulmonoligist my next visit he kinda just shrugged it off. I did some research on Doxy and kept at the doctor, after my repeated sinus infections and bouts of lung infections re-occured. He agreeded to prescribe. I tried several different doses the one that works for me the best is one 100 mg. Tablet or capsule twice a day. I believe it reduces the inflammation throughout your body.
I know antibiotics 24/7 are not the best thing, but I have a very low FEV1 and I believe doxy is safer than predisone.

Any other information would be super, we can live more comfortable!

Hi AZgram. I have had numerous courses of doxycyline over the past few months and have always ended up having to have another antibiotic straight after as it had no effect at all and the side effects were dreadful. Each time it has made my breathing worse, my stomach bad, my whole body ache and even sore to touch and lots more. They have now put on my notes that I cant have it anymore.

Thats what my GP gave me this past Fall, it helped but I ended up being on it three times, then finally when I got the bladder infection he put me on Bactrin.

This antibiotic has been out a long time. I have taken it back in the early 1980's for pneumonia but it didnt work and was put on something stronger. I didnt have any side effects from it. Just didnt work .

i've been on doxycyline several times in the last 12 months and it has always worked well for me , i did find that if i was also taking indigestion meds i got real bad stomache pains and if i was on ped as well my body was sensitve to touch ( a bit like feeling bruised ) like KK ,but taken on its own i had no side effects
this is the only anti biotic that i never have to go back to GP for a second course with
amoxycilin is about as usfull as a chocolate teapot on my chest infections

Was going to post it for all but then did a search in DS copd forum and noticed this thread and another re allergy to the drug after a period of time.

I am prescribed doxycyline everytime I have a lung infection, works great, hell, my vet gives it to my dog also

Is it the same Doxycycline that has been out for years? I took it back then but can't remember how it worked (pre COPD).

I do know that the drug industry is trying to establish some as crossover drugs for additional conditions and this appears to be one.

I say if it works for anyone, in regard to lung inflammation,it is a good thing.
