I am sorry to say this but this country sucks at caring for its natural born citizens who have worked and paid into the system their whole lives. I see medicaide being handed out freely to non citizens who break the law by being here just because they are breeding like cockroaches when you have chronically Ill and disabled citizens who are born and raised here whose families have for generations worked here and paid into the system being denied any help. I am 61 1/2 and am still forced to work 6 days a week for my insurance. The gov. has declared me disabled but will not help me with insurance. I don't expect free but I also should not have to loose my home or should my husband have to spend his inheritance from his parents to support my declining health. I honestly believe that this gov hopes I don't live very long after I finally quit work in a couple of years. That money is needed to breed and grow more voters. I have served my purpose...time to get out of the way and make room for the "new" preferred citizens.
You are very fortunate to live in a country like Australia that values and cares for its most vunderable citizens. A country that actually rewards hard workers and not the breeders.
I know what I said is not politically correct but I am tired of feeling like a second class citizen in my native country while I drag myself to work 6 days a week....its just not fair. Even with insurance I still pay thousands a year out of pocket and still have many unpaid medical bills which have ruined my credit. Credit that I had kept perfect my whole life before I got sick a couple years ago. This country has it ass backward but I know it is all politacially motivated.
Thanks for letting me ramble on...as I'm getting ready at 4AM to drag my tired but out to work for day 3 of 6.....I'm sooooo tired! It is very hard not to feel resentment when I am being forced to help support people who are scofflaws while I see my fellow american born and raised citizens are treated like second class citizens.
Yes, there is no comparison..... The USA is rapidly changing into a third world country....I see it especially here in Texas.

Well Denny..it was not exactly comparing as in look how lucky we are! It was basically about how health care rates in a few countries....it was interesting to find out that the UK had close to the best available......

Ilovethek.....I really do not know anything about the US system or Obamacare etc except the majority of Americans on my Expat forum complain bitterly esp. ex-service guys....that they get shafted....

Yes government employees of any kind (except the GREEDY fat cats running things) are pretty much use and throw away to make room for fresh meat. Its probably been like this since god knows how long. I just discovered it a couple years ago because of getting sick and asking for help.
The VA healthcare system here is something for the citizens here to be ashamed of. I have a lot of customers who are retired military and their stories about substandard healthcare and waiting times for a visit to a dr are shocking to say the least.
I am trying to avoid Obamacare. That is why I still work. I'm pretty sure Obamacare wouldn't do much to help an old lady with chronic health problems. They need that money to court new young voters whether they are legal citizens or not....they will make them all legal so they can out vote us old foggies. Soylent green is just around the corner except I don't think the end will be nearly so peaceful.

Yes, the UK does have some of the best rates around - but I do question their health care morals...

Here in Canada we have socialized medicine. Sometimes it means you have a long wait time to get to see a specialist, but generally you get the care you need at no cost to yourself (you pay for this care in your taxes). No one in Canada ends up going broke because of healthcare. Prescription coverage varies from province to province. Here in Alberta (one of the richest provinces in Canada) we get no prescription coverage at all. In Manitoba (where I grew up), lower income people (pensioners, etc.) can get their prescriptions paid for after they finally pay their deductible which is a little high.
Hubby & I have worked very hard & have finally gotten me disabled status for income tax which means more of my medical costs will be tax deductible when we file our income tax. We are still fighting the battle to get me a on Disbability through the federal govt. & waiting for the provincial govt. to help with prescription costs (because I'm poor enough to qualify, now just have to wait to see if I'm sick enough to qualify). In order to get any help from the govt. you have to jump through hoops just when you feel the sickest.

The gov puts you through the same here. I had to have a pulmonary function test (on their dime) to qualify BUT you have to wait 2 years after qualifying as disabled before they will give you medicaid. Tell me that this gov isn't hoping I will die first. Also you are supposed to have a certain number of work credits first which I more than have enough. I wonder how people who have NOT worked enough here get checks.....and I know that many people around here draw checks who did not work much in the USA. What a country. Steals from its own citizens to support people who choose to breed over and over instead of working. Whatever happened to the welfare to work program?
I don't qualify for Medicaids because my husband and I have more than 3,000.00 in our life savings and we own 3 vehicles. I have a 2007 Subaru Forrester and he has a 2000 ford f150 pickup truck and he also inherited his moms 1994 Toyota Camry . We can only have 2 cars even though one is 20 years old and do sent run good. Has anyone ever checked some of the cars outside the welfare office? It doesn't matter if your car and wheels are worth 1,000 or 100,000. 2 cars period. Something is wrong with that!

Uhhhhh - someone is paying for that stuff that is implied "for free" and all those goo "rates" - Damn . . . I haven't found anything "FREE" anywhere . . . it comes down to how much you are willing to pay so that you have the feeling that your government is taking care of you. /haankster/

Hank you hit the nail on the head. Its just having to deal with overly greedy people. Some of these doctors are real prima donnas. $7000.00 for him to spend less than 45 minutes with a person in the ER is completely out of line. And he was smart assed at that. The aid that wheeled me out to my car was more concerned that I understood how serious my condition was than this pos doctor was. I didn't pay him and he ruined my credit. This was 2009 when I first heard the word cold. I had another 3 years of digs before the disease sat me down and made me realize how serious things had gotten. No thanks to that first over paid ( but not by me) doctor.
I thought price gouging was illegal but whoever prices medical needs apparently doesn't know that.

I do agree with some of what you wrote Ilovethekitties, everyone in America has the right to vote both in State a Federal elections, some people just dont vote or take an active part in that liberty, when we dont things dont happen the way we wish they would. Also we are free and can move to another country if we find it more desirable.

I also am fed-up with our current Leader and his co-workers but I still say I would not want to live anywhere else and certainly dont want socialized medicine.

The disability program needs attention, as well as some other welfare programs, I agree, I see folks everyday abusing the system but it is our system and only we can change it.

If I offended anyone I apologize. That is a freedom we have...speech...LOL

The reason the government waits two years when you go on SSDI before they start medicare is to insure that you are permanently disabled. I start medicare in December. There are many people that use SSDI for a short term injury (

Denny...but they are gonna send me a monthly check! COPD does not get better. I would rather have the medicare so I could quit work and slow down before these 6 day weeks year end and year out will shorten my time even more. I got a lot of fun stuff to do in a small enough window of time without working my years away. I can see them retesting everyone on disability periodically but at least give the disabled the same benefits that they hand out so freely for pregnancy....like we need more people pregnancy is NOT a disability.
BTW...I didn't qualify for ssi just disability because I work and make too much money even though I make less than $13.00 per hour before taxes.
