My pulmonologist prescribed it because MY disease had progressed to where the warning signs of flare-ups (mucus blocks) were less recognizable - therefore essentially having more because they would come on sudden and surprise me. He suggested that Daliresp would 'even' things out. So far he has been correct - it has helped.
Unfortunately he was also correct about the side effects. He said the most common complaint was its effect on the GI tract. I was to only try it for a month and see if I could "tolerate it" (his words - a definite warning. smile).
The very next day of trying it - I immediately got the runs. Pretty bad. Since then I've gotten more stable, but still always feeling slightly bloated, but I've NOT had a single surprise flare-up and have a steady flow of stuff to clear - both ends. Smile
So I've opted to stay on it.
Later stages of COPD tends to be a balancing act.
hadn't had before or since.
I developed insomnia, the real thing, which was a first for me. Ive had occasions where I couldnt sleep because perhaps too much caffeine, too much excitement, restless leg, etc., but this was very different. Super tired, muscles tired, eyes tired, calm, body screaming for sleep, but when I closed my eyes nothing.
Changed dosage to very early in the morning - no go. Doctor suggested I cut in half. (Lots of fun there the pill is dinky to start with.) That seems to be working as I can finally sleep but never more than four hours at a time.
Losing several pounds a week (12 pounds so far), which is OK, but apparently from the wrong places - still have my doughnut. Easily explained have absolutely no appetite. Find myself suddenly realizing I havent eaten at thing all day. GI still cycles regardless of diet.
However, Daliresp does its job. Ive had no flare-ups, no coughing attacks, and no stuck mucus. That is, zero exacerbations. Seem to breath better, can walk a tad farther, and last a wee bit longer at tasks -when I get some sleep. Unfortunately, at this point, Im not sure how much of this kind of healthiness I can stand. LOL
Not surprised to learn your husband quit. I would have bailed myself, but Im trying to help out the doctor. There is always the possibility I might become more tolerant. Ive been lucky up till now. Ive had no serious side-effects or reactions to any of my many meds. Guess it was finally my turn. LOL
