COPD & Emphysema Support Group
COPD is a progressive disease characterized by airflow obstruction or limitation. Emphysema is characterized by loss of elasticity of the lung tissue, destruction of structures supporting the alveoli and of capillaries feeding the alveoli. If so, I am so very sorry you are so ill with this disease that you are incapable of having a happy life.
I am in end stage copd and I ride my stationary bike, walk on my treadmill, go shopping at Walmart and HEB, and drive my car where ever I go.
No one should have to continously kick their self for a mistake they made years ago.
It is time to get over it. I started smoking when I was 15 and quit when I was 65. Had I quit sooner would I be healthier?...You bet!!
But I didn't, and I am not, so I will make the best of how much time I have left.
The LAST thing I need is to read how horrible my death is going to be. We all know all about that, and we try to cheer each other up, hold each others hand, maybe putting something positive in someone's life.
Smokers know the evils of smoking, but what is done is done . They will either quit and extend their time a bit, or keep smoking and speed up their demise.
But thank you for the warning, maybe it will help someone out there make the right decision....Don.t be so hard on yourself, you can not re-live the past. Find some sunshine somewhere , something positive to be around Blessings to you and your family, and I will keep you in my prayers.

Those of us that read and post on this forum, for the most part are living what you're posting. What you neglected to post is that with proper medication, diet and excersize, COPD sufferer's can reduce the effects and slow, if not stop the progression of the disease.
Speaking for myself, this type of scare tactic never worked to deter me from smoking, drinking or doing drugs and offers little positve information for the reader in this forum. I do hope it brought you some comfort in getting your message out.

..I already have the disease - there's nothing I can do about that now .... it is what it is for whatever reason.... I intend to try to live the very best life I can, enjoy each beautiful moment. I found having emphysema is a wake-up call that I should pay better attention to my life because I won't live forever....
Maybe your post should be on the WhyQuit.com, becomeanex.org website or another for smokers that are trying to quit smoking. It may help influence some of them to quite smoking. Just a thought.
We all have messages that we want to deliver or things we want to vent about and sometimes it is difficult to read. Whatever your position, she spoke the truth and it is mighty uncomfortable to read.
it is a comfort to me and I celebrate that she is still able and willing to step out and say what we all have or will think about at some point............... .And I am sure that she fights each day to make her life manageable or else she wouldn't be able to show up.
Good to hear from you again Ziggy. Peace and Love to you.

There are probably folks here that were wanting to read this article and are so happy you posted it. I know I can ingnore posts I don't like. Believe me there are a lot of them here. Yep, we're the choir but hearing a old song is fine. For those that say, I can ride a bike, socialize, ect. Well, I can too but I don't know for how long. The article helped me to understand better what those that have progressed further are going through. Also reminds me to make preparations for those days.when I can't.
