Glad you let us know re: your appointment. Your being quite pleased with the Dr. is more than half the battle. You "sound" sooooo good. Kudos to the Dr. for not getting into the mortality bit - I think he's great too!

The more you meet with us the more you'll see that predictions are not acceptable (some Dr.'s have been given a mark on their forehead for this practice). What we have in common is COPD, but what's different is pretty much everything else including how much longer we'll live.

I'm sure you'll receive help from this group to interpret the numbers - I don't pay any attention to my numbers. Some days I either feel good or not so good.

I am glad the appointment went well, and you were happy with the doctor. Please do not be put off by "predictions". Those are numbers done in a study that says so many percent of folks your age with your disease died within so many years....He has to say that I suppose, but he knows he is not God, and only God has the last word on that. Get your stress test, ask him about pulmonary rehab, and get started on a good diet, Exercise, especially walking is wonderful for you, and also aerobic type exercises, what you can tolerate, also hand weights to build up upper body. This disease is very progressive, but with proper meds, exercise, diet, and staying well, you can slow down the progress a lot!!! You are on the right track, and make sure no smokers are around you. You might have 5 years, you might have 15, and you might get hit by a bus tomorrow. Concentrate on getting as strong and healthy as you can , and you will do great. Keep us posted

Terrydavid, as a PS to my comment, you may not be able to do a lot of strenuous exercises, but whatever you can do will help, and build you up gradually. Main thing is to stay active as possible. Talk all this over with the doctor, and after the stress test he and you will know more what you can do. Good luck with it and God Bless.

I'm sorry he told you 5 years, but hey..like the others that have been given a time range on here, a lot have surpassed that prediction, and then some!!!

Just try and be as positive as you can, know i'm you're my buddy..and I will ask the angels and god to look out for you.

In regards to the cancer, well...day by day hon...and see how things transpire with that too.

Just know that we are all thinking of you, and thru no matter what, any trials and tribulations, we are here for each other. You have an "extra family' here, and i'm rooting for ya!!

so glad your visit went well & that you like the dr---to me, a dr i feel comfortable with and can trust is soooooooooo important.

So happy to hear you liked the Dr. That is so important. Keep us informed when you get the rest of your results. I agree with the rest don't focus on time left. None of us know that not even the Dr. only God knows. I really don't think the Dr. should even say, mine told me 4 years ago I had 2 years left. So they are wrong. I think a lot is the attitude of the person. This is not a death sentence.
