I've been a lurker here for a couple of years! My 59 yr old husband has severe COPD, is on oxygen 24/7, and is retired on disability. We are pretty knowledgeable and realistic about this disease and the prognosis,
but every once in a while I am completely overwhelmed with that reality. In November of 2012,after a hospital stay, I had "the talk" with his pulmo and was told that realistically we could hope for maybe 6 months to 2 yrs.
So, thanks be to God, that Dr. was wrong in his guesstimate. We're still plugging along, have moved to a nicer environment, and are trying to make the most of each day. Just wanted to finally say "Hi" , and tell you how much I appreciate you guys.

Doctors really should stop playing God. I will admit, some may actually get the date close, but very few. Consider this,they take a study that says this person, age xx, weight xx, with this medical condition xx, has been shown to live about xx years after diagnosis. So this is what they are telling you...and it is wonderful they were wrong. You have a great attitude, so enjoy life one day at a time...

In defense of the Dr playing God, he really wasn't. I kind of backed him into a corner with my questions. He was really pretty good, esp compared with the arrogant disaster we have now, but that's another topic. 8-)
