I'm glad you are feeling better! I miss walking more than anything I used to do. Jogging would have done me in, I think.

Great Zig....I miss walking as well...now its a chore that's dictated by how I feel...the weather or whats on TV....seriously I still walk every day around the block, sure I could go further but my lit dog can't n im not pushing him in a pram on the return journey......

'Tis great. I don't quite understand the 16 blocks i.e. 4 blocks 4 times a day? Scared me with my first read. What's possible is encouraging. The more we do the more we can do - no matter how small. That's my biggest problem pushing just a bit past yesterday! I'll keep this in mind for tomorrow.

The 16 blocks I walk every day is 2 laps of an 8 square block track in my neighbourhood. I'm one house off of the corner, I come out of my driveway walk 1 block to the corner and turn right, 2 short blocks of flat, level walking and a right hand turn and then 2 very long blocks of gradual downhill, another right hand turn and I now have to pay for my downhill coast with 2 shortish blocks of a very steep hill, so steep the cars often shift into first on the way up it. On these 2 blocks I try to power walk up, or sometimes jog it if I'm feeling particularly skookum. Then a final right hand turn and one last block of a very sleight uphill grade to my driveway which I usually pass by and do the loop once more. I once filmed myself jogging the 2 block uphill leg of my journey and posted it to youtube and linked to here one time last spring. I took it down a short while back due to foolish comments posted to it. Anyways the walking seems to be paying off
. I've noticed that oddly enough, the advances in my abilities/lung health don't come in a steady increase the way I'd expect. I seem to plateau for a while, a month or so and then get carried away with things and miss my walks for a few days and when I come back to it I find my ability has increased and that the feeling of resistance in my breathing has decreased. Then I plateau there for a month or so again.
Since I work in hospital supply and return, I've come to think that whatever I got into my lungs was a particularly virulent strain of bug that got to me riding in on one of the returns from the hospital. I've never had any kind of ailment other than this that took more than 6 weeks to completely heal from

Also there has been a big change to the phlegm I've been bringing up of late. It's gone from a yellowish brown, slightly infected looking smokers phlegm, to a clear phlegm with lots of dark speckles in it. Speckles that I expect are tar coming up since when I smear them out they are similar in color to the stain of a smoked cig filter or butt end. I don't know why tar should be coming up in little specks like this but it does seem to be the case. I've googled it and found it's not too uncommon in those quitting smoking. It shocked me the first time I saw it. I thought, "oh man, what now." Here is a pic of some kind of bird egg I found. The speckles are almost identicle in size distribution and color to what I'm bring up these days.

Glad you are doing better. Wish I could walk more but my damn back keeps me limited more than my lungs anymore. Been living where I am for 11 or 12 years now and have always taken care of the huge leaves off the huge tree in front. First time ever I have to hire it out. Back is a mess after doing some weed trimming. No way I can do it now.

yeah, I get you there. Like I said my knees are the weak link. I need them for work for another 15 years or so assuming I'm around so long. Toward the end of the work week, on bad weeks I'll wake up in the night with the one aching and actually have to grab my heel between the big and first toe of my other foot and slowly stretch it out. The pain goes away almost immediately but before I straighten it out it almost seems locked in agony there. It's actually got better some as well as my lungs have improved, as has the rash on my elbows. They all seem to be connected somehow.

that's so great that you're able to exercise so much & that you feel good! I miss walking too, especially when it's colder now. I've been thinking about using my Mom's treadmill. I think exercise is good for the lungs. Only you know your limit so I say keep pushing on as much as you can!

That is great Zig.....keep up the good work. I was doing ok until I came to corpus, and I do get to walk around the apartment complex at times, and maybe go out with Heather, but mostly I am playing polar bear with Asher, or trains, or spiderman, or what ever. I do not have my treadmill here, and have to use my rollater. Today the baby is in school, and both Heather and Dave are at work (Asher goes to pre kin 5 hours 2 x wk) so I intend to do some walking. I am not even going to try for 16 blocks,,,
