What can I say??????? This is a subject I know NUFFIN about...........LOL
Like Jackie says, don't beat yourself up..........I'll beat ya up and then you can beat me up.
I am TRYING with the NJOY cig...........and I would be lying if I said I don't have some real cig as well (plenty of them)............but I figure for every one I don't smoke, I am ahead of the game......if only by a little...........baby steps:)
I took the Patch back (had a hard time returning it cause it is a tobacco product - but manager gave me a break:).......but after reading the fine print on the box, I knew I would screw it up........and end up making myself sick.......and hell, I am already sick enough with various other things.............LOL
You know I am here for you (as is everyone)........and just keep taking those Baby Steps:):):)
I ditto Denny. "You'll get there".
Hugs...
Val is right, each cigarett you smoke is destroying more lung tissue and soon you will be back on the oxygen.
The E-Cig is good to the extent all it provides is the nicotine, which is the addictive part, but not the tar and chemicals which is the worst part. But you are still getting the nicotine , and soon crave the "smoke" going into your mouth and lungs.
Honey, no one can quit for you, the only one that can do your quitting is you, not us, not Val, not anyone else.
You know you will always have our prayers, and hugs, and best wishes, but you have to reach way down inside and pull up some will power and resolve, and keep trying.
Excuses are just that, excuses. They are not reasons. We will always experience stress, problems, sadness, fears, all those things that make us human, but we don't all look for an excuse not to face it.
So you tried to quit, and you succeeded for a while. That is something to be proud of that shows you YES, you can do this. So pick your self up, put the cigs down, and try it again, and again, and how ever many times it takes. Understand what sets you off to reach for a smoke, then be aware of those times. If it were so easy, we all would have quit overnight, it does not work that way.
Forgive your self, start over, and concentrate on the upcoming surgery, that you have to be ready for.
We love you, and we have your back, Betsy. Prayers for you .
The patch will take away the cravings, but you have to WANT to quit.
Love you my Sister

From how it works over here the endoscopy is a local anesthetic so you are more drowsy than completely under, it makes a difference!!
Praying real hard for you...try not to stress yourself out over it, one day you will do it and hopfully that will be soon x x x
i prayed that for 2 years before i got diagnosed with COPD & i quit with the e-cigs.
funny thing with the e-cigs is I smoked both cigarettes & e-cigs for a month or 2, because the e-cigs ARE different & i had to kind of get used to them. (the people i know that quit with e-cigs had to get used to them also; those that tried to "cold turkey" straight to the e-cigs ended up saying the e-cigs didn't work & threw them out).
then there was the point i said to myself...."okay jarca, you got the hang of them, time to stop the regular cigarettes."
and i MADE myself not buy any regular cigarettes to have around (face it, if they are in reach i'll always reach for the "easier/softer way").
one thing i found with quitting anything; is the minute i said i was going on a diet, quitting smoking,,,, i started craving it even more!!! the thought of going without made me want whatever i was trying to quit (my mind messes with me LOL)
so i didn't "quit" i just "waited"
if i wanted a cigarette, i'd wait for 5 minutes and go find something to do in the meantime (wow---was my house clean at this time LOL)
i also had to "wait" until i was off the computer to smoke.
& "wait" until i hung up the phone to have one.
& "wait" to reach my destination & NOT smoke in the car.
& "wait" for awhile after eating
.... you get the idea i suppose ;)
in other words i made little "rules" for myself & tried to "wait" through what were my usual places to smoke.
and to this day, i never think of it as i "can never have another cigarette" (ohhhh; doesn't that sound finale & just make ya want one?)....
i know if i want a cigarette i can go buy one at any time....i just choose to "wait" and not drive for awhile :D
good luck girls....addiction messes with my head, telling me how i need it and it will be scary to stop.....i had to mess with my head to counteract the addiction talking. and i had to ask god to help me, cuz i couldn't do it alone, but i could "wait" and let god do the rest.
:)
phew, i think thats the most i've said about smoking on this board, but loosing "drink coffee" hurt alot.
and i'm not ready to lose you ms. debbear or ms. boo ((((HUGS))))

I say beat yourself up a little and use your disappointment and bad feelings as a catalyst to beat nicotine addiction for good. Addiction is clouding your judgment telling you its too hard. You CAN quit. The more distance you put between youself and your last cigarette, the more empowered you will feel. Until then, fake it till you make it.
Make quitting smoking a priority.
Invest time educating yourself about addiction and understand why you cant have just one. (There is no such thing as just one.) I suggest you take the free online course at www.quitsmokingonline.com. This free course can help you see smoking for what it really is and help you change what you believe about smoking. It can help you develop a positive attitude about quitting. The course promotes cold turkey quitting, but people using nicotine replacement therapies or quit medications can benefit from the short course.
In the past Ive recommended www.quitnet.com as a good support forum. In my opinion, its in the top three best online support forums for people quitting smoking. Studies show that participation in a support group increases the odds of quitting smoking.
You may want to check your local hospital to see if there is a smoking cessation program. Find out if there is a Nicotine Anonymous group that meets in your area: https://www.nicotine-anonymous.org/index.php
Millions of people quit smoking every year and there is no reason you cant be one of them.
I promise you, as long as you dont smoke, it will get easier. Smoke and it wont. I smoked for 40 years. Today I dont need to smoke and I dont want to smoke. I have lost all desire to smoke. In fact, smoking is about as appealing as sucking on the tailpipe of a city bus. Now that I dont smoke, I wonder why I smoked as long as I did. The only thing smoking did for me besides create another crave was give me emphysema.
Whether or not you smoke is a choice and YOU control the outcome. Choose wisely, your life depends on it. Listen to Val.
