good lord can't people use their brains or at least follow a products warning.
ya think if the e-cigs make steam to inhale there must be somthin' hot inside?
geez, i think i'll go set my portable tank on the back unlit burner of my stove while i wear my 02 & cook me some dinner on the front gas burner.
sorry, but i'm not always real bright, but i don't ask for trouble using things wrong either.
isn't there a "duh.com" site for things like this?
ps. sad he lost his life, i just can't believe things like this get law suits & people against products.
Damn smoking gets you one way or the other.
Yeah Dennis, a tough one...
Hope your are doing OK...

I am glad this kind of thing is rare , and sorry for his death.
The problem in this case is that e-cigs have no required over-charge protection unlike other rechargeable devices (cell phones, toys, flashlights, ...). Which points out the major problem with these devices (whether rechargeable or single-use) - there is NO regulatory body.
Wouldn't be too quick to slap Duh-tag on the poor guy.
The exploding ecigs tend to be when people decide to use unprotected batteries because they are cheaper .
Those can definitely be overcharged and never should be used for ecig use , but people will do it .
If you buy from a reputable dealer they will not sell unprotected battery's and the smaller kits are all protected and voltage regulated.
Specifically, it's e-cigarettes' lithium-ion batteries that combust. These batteries are also found in laptops and cellphones. But with e-cigarettes, the batteries are especially prone to overheating because smokers use incompatible chargers, overcharge the e-cigarettes, or don't take sufficient safety precautions. For example, many e-cigarettes are made to plug into a USB port, which smokers may take to mean the devices can be safely charged with a computer or iPad charger. But if left too long in a common USB port, some e-cigarette batteries can fry.
The industry acknowledges that explosions are a possibility. "I'm aware of 10 failures in the last year," Thomas Kiklas, who represents the Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association, told NBC Chicago last October. "When you charge them, they are 99.9 percent safe, but occasionally there will be failures."
The Food and Drug Administration, which oversees tobacco products, does not currently regulate e-cigarettes. An FDA spokesperson says the agency is working
E-cigs may not deliver tar to the lungs but it does deliver nicotine to the body and that is not good.
Anything that you are using your lungs to smoke, you are setting yourself up for trouble.
They may be "safer" than cigarettes but is just "safer" what you want for the future.
This is just my humble opinion only.

I tried all the medical solutions , and failed miserably. When ecigs came out here in the US I decided to try them too. Glory be it worked !
I was so busy playing with my new ecig I literally quit smoking without really realizing it . For me it was a miracle and I know hundreds of others just like me .
I smoked 42 yrs 2 packs a day so not a light or casual smoker .
The liquid used in an ecig is the same stuff that carries the meds in a nebulizer, which is why it looks like smoke , adding nicotene is optional but most start out that way and work it down to no nic over time .
Is it safer , I think so! I used to make my own liquid right here in my kitchen
I know for a fact what was in it .
It is a lifesaver for many who just cant quit smoking, but find with an ecig they can.
But there is nothing that I can think of that would want me to make a mixture to be used in a device that will take the vapor straight into my lungs.
Our lungs already have a battle to deal with just the everyday environment. Why voluntarily give them something else?
Struggling to breathe everyday just really gives a different perspective on some things.
it's been 4 years since i quit with the e-cigs (yes, they worked for me too)
when i did it the white cigarette white part WAS the battery & it screwed into the charger that came with it (both the computer one & household charger came with mine)
so there was no way i could use 'the wrong" charger, so i picture really having to "rig" a charger to mis-use one.
then the "filter" part screwed on that had the heater & nicotene (or 0 nicotene)...it was all a closed up package deal that i would really have to work at to have done it wrong.
does this mean that when i forget my cell phone on the charger overnight it could explode?????
now ya got me scared of charger things!!! (i always leave my laptop plugged in also when i'm home using it)
