Like the author of this topic, I watched, and suffered greatly as my own mother succumbed to the ravages of lung cancer 13 yrs ago.. Did it cause me to stop smoking back then? No, but maybe if I had viceotaped her last days. weeks, months, just maybe I would have.
I finally quit 21 months ago, on my own terms, cold turkey. Totally unaware that a monster was ravaging, and totally destroyed my right lung and most of my left lung. Unfortunately for me. it was much too late for me. Now that I've had a little bit of time for reflection on my condition, not only did I use up 50 years of my life smoking. I can now think of my very first 15 years of life breathing in 2nd hand smoke from my parents, grand parents. and all of their friends. We all now know that 2nd hand smoke is a volitile danger. But we also have to consider the times. late 40's all of the 50's, on into the early 60's. The dangers were known then, by the big tobacco commpanies, but surely they weren't about to shoot their "cash cow"!
I truthfully can't blame them for all of the 2nd hand smoke. No one. in the general public, knew of the horrible dangers associaated with cigarette smoking, and tobacco use of any kind!
My hope and prayer is that one day, probably not in my lifetime,
ALL tobacco products will be banned rom use! A wish that will more than likely remain unfulfilled.
So, don't blame the "messsenger",but commend him/her. Blame big tobacco. and pray for that poor woman and her family.
Just myoughts .......
