For me I feel the best when I keep my diet largely plant based with a bit of meat and dairy on a limited basis.
i have hardly any appetite & eat to survive.
i am on a dairy kick now & can't get enough cheese, cottage cheese, milk etc.
next month i might be on a meat kick.
and the next a vegi kick.
yeah, i'm weird LOL
the one thing i have realized is if i dont eat what my body wants i seem to keep eating trying to get that satisfaction, so i end up over eating.
my last blood work showed all good, so i go with what my body tells me to eat & that i enjoy eating.
ps. i take prilosec for the GERD/acid reflux, but have found that gasx (simethicone?) really helps me when i lay down at night.
I said earlier that I finally got a grip on my reflux and gastritis from diet and life style changes. When I went to a follow up appointment with the gastroenterologist a few weeks ago, I told him that I discontinues my PPI's. He was fist very upset and asked me what I'm planning to do about my problems. Then I told him about the diet etc. His answer was that "No American would stick to the diet". I don't think that is true. I think patients should at least be giving that option. If they are not given that option how the heck are they supposed to know about it. I got similar responses from German doctors in Germany. My primary doctor in Germany told me that he does not give patients that option anymore because not a single patient he had followed through on his dietary recommendations. I guess it's much easier to swallow a pill, but I would always give folks the benefit of all info to cure their illnesses if I was a doctor.
of course i'm not a dr so you might want to chek with yours first, but the bloating/ gas is so uncomfortable & cheap over the counter.
there is another type of med advertised OTC that i can't think of the name now....that might be better, but the gas x is wonderful for me so i haven't tried the other.
of course, i'm not a dr, but it sure has given me releif where the prilosec didn;t .
it is miserable to live with & my prayers are with you.
If I count my daily intake in energy procent, carbs 5%, protein 20% and rest natural fat from butter, cream, egg and meat.
My readings for cholesterol are excellent.
I am amazed with number of people on the Celiac forums with asthma. I am sure they will find a clear connection if more studies were done.
Lately I have really cleaned up my diet very low carbs, more fruit and vegetables, water and a little meat. Almost Paleo but I think that term is way over used for what should simply be a healthy low carb diet.
I can say my breathing is better and my bloating is nearly gone. However, when I go to restaurants I think I get cross contamination and then have problems even if I ordered the gluten free fare.
Bloating and big meals push up on your diaphragm which restricts your breathing. This is why they say small meals for COPD.
I try to stay away form processed foods, any food with corn syrup or its derivatives, and any prepackaged food with more than 5 ingredients or so.
Keep your diet simple. The quickest fast foods in the world are nuts and fruits. Eat up.
