Boo when my cannula starts roaming it usually means it's time to change to a new one.

Boo, I use a cpap machine when I sleep so I dont have that issue. But during the day if i start losing my cannula, I just tighten the chin strap a bit, if it continues I change cannula's. Take care, Bill

Yes Boo, that happens to me when I sleep. Like Bill said, tighten the chin strap, or like Imarighter said, it may be time for a new cannula. I change mine every few weeks, or if they get nasty looking if I am ill, so try one of those suggestions.

PS, and sometimes, rarely, you get a cannula that the chin strap just won,t hold. I had that problem only once and my medical supply folks had to send me new ones.

I just changed my cannula and it fixed the problem on most nights. I truly believe that some nights I take the darn thing out, then go back to sleep. I wake up with the most awful headache and I look like shhhhhhh an feel about the same.

You might also try a flared tip cannula.

When I go through periods of tossing & turning, I use gentle tape & slap a small piece over the canula about an inch from my nose. It usually does the trick.

i gave up on the soft canulas because they wouldn't stay tight at night & i had that problem.
now i use the curved ones.
sometimes it curves down so much it makes sores at the bottom of my nose so i "twist" it so it is more on top of my nose, but then i have that problem that it pops out.
tightening helps some at that time, but i feel like i'm choking since my surgery if i tighten it too much.
MY DUH thing is i sometimes put the darn thing in only one nostril & it hangs out the side of the other (who wants to look in mirrors at my age to put it on LOL)---at night, i figure at least i am getting some 02 that way, but it's REALLY EMBARRASSING when i go out and realize i've got it on wrong! (kinda like a zit on your face in public that you wonder how long it has been there & no one said anything )
i have alot of these dumb things i do....thank god i can laugh at myself.
can it be any of these things?--- i think the tightening it is probably the best suggestion.

BTW; do others have the annoyance of the new ones not "molding" right? just about the time mine gets comfortable fitting on my face it's time to change it----any handy hints?

ps i was told to change canula once a week????

Yeah, mine holds in ok in one nostril, but is too upward on the other..maybe my nose is crooked, and I didn'tknow it, LOL!!

But, i'm a bad girl, i'm supposed to wear my bi pap at night, so better get back on track and wear that..then I won't even be wearing the cannulas at all.

oh, and I changed to a new one, but same thing happens..they feel more flimsy than they used to, and I've only been using them since January, maybe they changed them???

The cause is simple logic ... you've got the neck piece too loose and while you're moving your head while in REM stage sleep. your sun-consciousness feels something in your nose that isn't natural, and you pull it out! OR, if you don't have a saline/water canister/demister where you hook your tubing up, means that the O2 you're breathing in is way too dry. This leads to sneezing, which will dislodge the nose piece. That's my 2 cents Boo. Pick the one that makes sense to you, or, throw both thoughts in the waste basket. Let us know what you've tried, what works, what didn't. From time to time, I'll wake up extremely SOB and my cannula is on the other side of the bedroom! Jim

Jim...yeah I tightened it up....the neck piece but thte nose piece still falls out. I have a reservoir where I put distilled water into it.

Terry-I KNEW you would be the one to comment on my "are my nostrils too big"??? LOL!! You quack me up!!

So, truth...I should have to worry about this anyways, cause i'm supposed to be using my bi-pap machine with O2 hooked into it. so, I was a good girl tonight, and it's all set up for when I go to sleep, so no cannula needed tonight, im' going with the lovely face mask!!!
