So sorry pat, good thoughts for the LVR -- depression is another matter though. Please talk to your doctor about this

Brenda..if you will read the new Obamacare polcy the age group has or will be lowered....Each insurance has their own policy on the age wheather or not to approve.. Support system is also important as you say..However....the degree of osteo is now becoming the number one factor...for rejection....The amount of times you changed an appoitment is also considered...The reasn I know this is because I have made the list and is being placed on hold at two diferent hospitals....I was told my two major flaws were age (58) and osteo...However I have not had any broken bones related to osteo yet...Also my functioning skills are still considered fair...So there fore I am listed at the very bottom...which is considered HOLD... Do not give up. Even with a transplant your chance of survial only improve by 50 percent the first year and continue to drop each year after...So it is a very scary decision to decide if you truly want the transplant after approval.......praying for you...Joanne

Thank you so much for that info Beechnut. I never considered Obama care, I guess because I do not need it. That is un believeable that they consider 58 to old!!! That would really leave me out.
The survival rate is the main thing I worry about, because if it is a good thing, why do the survival rates keep going DOWN??
The doctors have told me several different things about that. But if I have 4 years left as they say, why gamble it away on 50% survival rate the first year. I may get 5 or more years out of the transplant, some folks do, but they have all been younger than me.
I have severe osteo in my hips and spine so they say. No fractures that I know of from that, but I may have experienced a spine fracture years ago, I was in such pain, and xrays showed nothing, but it went away soon. Doctors never said, only it could have been.
Yes it is a scary decision, and it should be noted that a transplant is NOT a cure.It comes with its own set of risks , some of which could be severe, but there are also the benefits.
There is something out there for Pat, and for myself. I guess I am on hold also because he said I am not ready yet, but that does not mean forever. Sometimes I do not know what they want!!!
Hang in there sister Pat, do not let this discourage you from pursuing other options.
Beechnut, I do pray all goes well for you, and you make the cut, if that is what you want. You are younger and sound stronger physically than I am, so there is hope.

To everybody who is considering a transplant..All the new test results have proved the youger the donor the better chance of survial. Also size of organ increases survial. However the reason for transplant is quality of life not quanity of life. You have to ask yourself is one year worth going without Oxygen or is another five to six with oxygen...which would you choose..You have to consider rejection....pneumonia and the main cause of death is gases from stomach going into lungs and causing all kinds of permament damage....The younger the patient the stronger chances of surivial..My dear PAT...Take your meds...please exercise regulary ...and do not get depressed...You are not ready to giive up ....MIRACLES CAN HAPPEN...pLEASE PROVE THE DOCTORS WRONG AND LIVE ANOTHER TEN YEARS....WILL PRAY FOR YOU AND ALL ds FAMILY.....OVERLOOK ERRORS..TYPING ON PHONE AND HAVE STIFF THUMBS..LOL
