Hi new friend. For anxiety I would recommend Xanax or Klonipin, Ativan. Klonopin works best for me but everyone is different. OT means off topic.

1MG of Clonazepam (generic for Klonopin) works best for me.

My husband uses Klalonapin for his anxiety. He takes it at bed for his Restless Legs....It makes him "high" and the impairment is huge, he would never drive after taking it unless he has had some sleep. I need to get back on something as well. I was on Zoloft for awhile, but the PTSD mares started breaking through. so I stopped...Getting ready to FLY for the 1st time EVER the end of June and just the thought alone, even now, is driving me batty....

benzodiazapenes= ativan, lorazapma clonazepam etc = are anti anxiety meds.
SSRI's= zoloft, prozac etc = are anti depressants

then there's the old "Tryciclic" anti depressants= elavil, triavil etc. those are some heavy duty stuff & not used that much any more (made me hallucinate)

getting a diagnosis like this does throw one for a loop and can cause anxiety or depression. sometimes it is short term while you get "used" to it; other times it is long term...this is a tough dx to be told & to live with. work with a dr you trust and don't be afraid to try different ones if one isn't working for you---there are so many, because we are all so different.

In the Philippines where I first found out about my COPD I was on Xanax n Valium, which were great...

Back in OZ.....benzos r banned so I started on Lexapro...my primary doc did not like the reaction of this n my Pain med Tramadol..so.this is my first week on Avanza.....no idea if any of the new ones work....

Danie, I use alprazolam 0.5 mg 3x. It calms me down enough to make breathing easier. Hopefully all of the comments you have gotten so far will help. Take care, Bill

Thanks for all the input. Many of these I've never heard of. Hopefully one will work.. I will only be seeing a P.A. this next visit so it will be nice to offer some suggestions. I don't get my choice of doctors, at least not that I know of. I will probably talk to the real experts right here for most of my advice.

I am on 100 mg of Zoloft and it seems to help. Benzodiazepines made me feel like a zombie and I did't like their addictive quality. It took me a month to get over Xanax and I had to keep tapering it down until I felt free of it. They put me on Xanax in the hospital when I had the bilateral pulmonary embolisms and they didn't discuss it at the time.

But, as has been said before, our bodies can all act differently with meds for depression or anxiety. One that made me ill was Wellbutrin but I don't think this is prescribed as often any longer - it threw my balance off so badly that it made me keep falling. ugh

I use zoloft generic and clonazepam daily and carry Xanax for emergencies.

Nothing every day. Xanax for emergencies.

I am not on anything .Of course I get anxiety ,who would not with evil
COPD?
I am learning thinks to do: to feel better or calmer without medication.

I don't take anything every day. I take Ativan when I need it. It has been a life saver for me. Just knowing I have it keeps me from having an anxiety or panic attack. I don't feel any side effects from it at all. I don't leave home without it.

I agree take anti-anxiety pills on an as needed basis. These don't include anti-depressives or other psych meds which should be taken routinely.
