No flu here, knock on wood. It's so hard to know when to see a doctor, isn't it. But for me, personally, I would be calling mine the minute it moved into my chest. A few years ago I ended up in the hospital for two weeks because I didn't go to the doctor till I was nearly dead. And it almost killed me.

My daughter had it over Christmas. She also had flu shot & has good lungs! She started symptoms ~ Dec. 19 (which was a Friday). Went to doc Monday (mainly because of concern for new six-month old baby) & he confirmed flu. He gave her Tamaflu, which I think helped her a lot, but still she was so miserable and had a burst ear drum, and a staff infection on her nose from all the blowing, I guess. Her fever did the same as yours. The baby had to go stay most of the time with his other granny :( and he could stay home when her fever was gone for 24 hours. But, like you it kept coming back (she called it the "happy hour fever" because it came back late afternoon every day). But, her's probably lasted about 10 days. I know it was over a week, but not quite 2 weeks.

With your having it for 3 weeks and your compromised lungs, you should definitely see a doc. Did you contact your pulmo or primary at all about this?

they say the flu is bad this year and new strains, if it is affecting your chest , I agree that you should seek help.

Just a reminder that anti-drugs viral like TamiFlu work, but must be taken less than 48 hours after symptoms or even exposure to the flu.

Call your doctor early!

i got that the begining of the month & luckily it stayed in my head and didn't go down in my lungs---it lasted less than a week, as most flu's do, so it sounds like you might have gotten a "secondary infection" into your lungs. (which calls for antibiotics)

if you are dealing with this for the 3rd week (!) i think you should get in & be seen!
prednisone may help if you have inflamation, but it could also cover symptoms and if you need an antibiotic it could continue to get worse & you wouldn't know it.
usually when i start wondering if i should "get seen", it means i need to get my behind in & get seem! so go with your gut!

there was a thing on the news that hospitals all over the country are overflowing with this flu`~~ so please get in & get seen before it gets worse!

Hi Captain !! I hope by now you have been to er, been seen by your doctor, put in the hospital on antibiotics, or something !! (Actually I hope you have avoided hospital at all costs.)

The flu strain this year mutated just as the shots came out, so it was not covered by the shots, and they had nothing that could stop it. So they are predicting it is a real, bad strain, and to do what ever is necessary to avoid catching it. Do you have any idea where you caught the germ from? It could be as simpe as setting on a door knob somewhere.

I am so sorry you caught it and are having such a hard time with it, but by now I hope you are on the road to recovery. My doctor does not want me to come in the clinic unless I am bleeding or something, because there are so many sick people coming and going. So I have been stuck at home for a couple of months, one of them I had a bad sinus infection, but she just sent a script to the drug store and I doctored myself at home.
Please let us know what is going on.

thank you very much for all your comments and advise. Very much appreciated. Last night was one of my best nights in a long time. I actually slept for 4 hrs straight and did not have a fever and not much coughing. Added 3 more hours of sleep and felt a bit better today and now have a normal temp. I see my Dr this AM and will get back to you. Everyone up here is hunkering down for the big snow storm arriving tonight. Be safe and God bless you all.

What did the doc say?

I had the flu, then broncitus, was sick the days after Christmas, was on Z-Pak which helped some what. Finally feeling better after a month but I don;t have severe COPD, Mild or moderate, I was mild last year but think I may be moderate now, have dr. appointemnt for lung function test in 2 weeks,
I would go to the E.R. ASAP if I were you, u don't wanna get any worse, you need meds. Good luck and wish you well.

UPDATE: so I wake up Monday morning feeling better with my first fever free best night sleep yet in over 2 weeks. I have an appointment with my PCP pertaining to my blood's anemic state and find out I can't walk 5 feet without bending over and gasping for air. You've got to be kidding me! Am I having an exacerbation? If it wasn't for my best friend who drove me to my appointment where my Dr wants me to have a blood transfusion STAT and arranges me to be admitted to the local hospital with my exacerbation sharing the No. 1 spot on my hit parade with blood transfusion. So here comes the IV's of the super antibiotics, blood draws and pred injections. But I must say I am feeling much better. They say I'll feel a lot better after my transfusion. Now I'm watching the local weather and how NH is getting hit by the Blizzard of 2015. I love private hospital rooms!
