Was dxd with copd/emphysema in 2010. Just recently i have watched her go way downhill. Her nose is so purple it is almost black, her nails areblue. She cannot walk across the room without gasping for breathe. She SHOULD be on oxygen 24/7, but refuses to. Shewon't go to the dr even tho she is doing so much worse. Shehas always been mean, but lately she has been very mean towards me. It is almost like she is pushing me away. i am feeling very worriedby the decline in her physical and mental status. How do u know when a person is to the point where things are critical?? and any advice for someone who has a loved one with thiscondition? Also, she has gotten to the point where she doesn't do anything. Luckily her husband (who i can't stand) is there for her. I just don't understand what is happening to herand need to better understand. Thank you for listening

Could Dementia be causing your Mom's difficult attitude? My Mom developed dementia due to Alzheimer's Disease (She also had COPD and Emphy) and I cannot begin to write of the difficulties with caring for her. My heart goes out to you. It is so painful and sad to watch our Mama suffer. No matter the history, we still have the need to fix the situation. Been there, done that and it is just hard.
Calling 9-11 may be the answer. They cannot turn her down with such obvious symptoms. 02 deprivation can cause mental confusion as the brain cells die.
I finally had to get Guardianship over my mother through an attorney. Very horrible thing to go through. I hope it is easier for you, this was an extreme situation.
She never got better, but she was in a safe place and well cared for.
She forgot very quickly what the problem was and settled into a quiet life (on meds) of safety, warmth and good food. After a short while she had no memory of her previous life and accepted that she had a good home in the care center.

Your Mum is lucky to have you to care for her but sometimes we just don`t understand, maybe your Mum doesn`t understand what is happening to her and that is why she is being so mean. You say you do not like your Mum`s husband but it sounds as though you need him to be on board so that you can work together to find help for her. At least if you know what is wrong you can then start to try to understand more.......just a thought
