Gosh honey, you have been going through alot. I am so sorry to hear about your son.

I know I am having multiple issues with my son too. And docs have told me the only way to get him the help he needs is by finding a place for him to go live where he can get the therapy and help he needs. Not everyone likes this route or wants to do it. But sometimes we have to for the safety of all involved.

I realize your son has many things going on but we just came across a book and approach that seems worth mentioning...Nancy L. Thomas "When Love is not Enough: RAD a Parents Guide to Reactive Attachment Disorder". Many of the behaviors are the same and she has an 85% success rate with children who have murdered. She has a tough love approach with good old fashioned respect built into it. We have started implementing parts of her process and we are already seeing results. She explains the childs mentality very simply and give the parents a much better sense of how to balance your child's bad behaviors while boosting his good ones.

I'm with virtuallyme, RAD is very often misdiagnosed as bi polar or conduct disorder or even scizo affective disorder...I've been there. I am very passionate about this because I've lived 18 years with a troubled child. Pleas also have him physically checked for tumors or seizures. a neurologist can help.
my heart goes out to you, you have been through a lot. Please be good to yourself. you deserve it.
Not to scare you, but if he put a knife to his neck he eventually very well could turn it on you and or your family. You need to do whatever is necessary to protect yourself.

Is your son on medication for bi-polar. Some medication needs to be monitored very closely as a person can have more mood swings and worse outburst. There are services that can help. I have a 17 year old with all this and than some. I tend to try to keep him on a very short leech so to speak. I have to know where he is at all times, who he will be around and I have to approve of the people he is hanging with. Weeding out the bad examples has helped a lot. I hope things go better. Just to let you know as they get older it seems to tapper off and is not as bad as when they are first going through puberty or right after. My son started acting like this when he was 7 and it got a lot worse between 12-16. Now that he is 17 it is getting a little easier. Having a counselor that can work with you and him his the best way to deal with some of this. Behavior health therapist try to help them change their negative behaviors. Try to monitor if he seems calmer after talking to the person or worse after seeing that same person for about a month or two. After two months for sure if there is no results it may not be the best person for him or you. Food for thought and good luck.
