What antibiotics specifically? Make sure they're ones that you aren't allergic and/or resistant too. I would also add magic mouthwash (for thrush, if you're prone to it), benedryl, tylonel #3, an epipen to that list....but that's me. Otherwise, sounds like what i keep on hand.

I keep zithromax usually on hand, inhalers and cough syrup. I would love to keep magic mouthwash but my doctor was not familiar with it. Can you please share specifically the name on the prescription or bottle? I have heard that it works great for apthous ulcers and I deal with those a lot.

Hi and thanks for your responses. I use Zithromax. Seems to be the best for me, although sometimes the doctor gives me Cipro.

I would also be very interested in the "magic mouthwash" - I get the worst apthous ulcers too...painful times for 10-14 days and lately it seems like I am getting them almost non-stop.

Sorry I don't have any magic mouthwash at the moment and I don't remember the exact name. Google says it's a compound that varies slightly from pharmacy to pharmacy. I know that wasn't helpful.

I'm at such a lost of what antiboitics to have/take. I'm severely allergic to the penicillin family and zythromax, and I'm becoming resistant or allergic to many sulfas. I typically am prescribed cephalosporin, Bactrim (which I think I might be allergic to, since I got a rash the last time I took it), or erythromycin. I'm afraid with such a limited repertoire I'll become resistant to them. Any ideas to help me and my doctor think outside the box?

If you could, if you are familiar with what you are treated with in the past, possibly keep to abx on hand - zpack for lungs, doxy/levaquin for nose. Ha I just had this conversation with my immuno on FRIDAY about having a new sinus infection - keep in mind this is what i take based on the fact I am allergic to almost everything. Me is sinus Doxy or if that won't work levaquin and lungs Zpack but 7 days. If you take pain meds for arthritis you don't need cough syrup because codene/vicodin is the active coguh suppressant in most cough meds. Inhalers, Epi pen - yes, I've never had an anaphylactyc reaction but I guess it is recommended now for subq users. Hmmm thats all I can think of! Don't forget to rotate your meds as they get old with new ones.

at church last week i went to the second floor to avoid crowds and ended up in an asthma attack with an out of date inhaler...i was at my docs office mornig morn and left with a new epipen (mine was over a yr old) and new inhaler i had 2 one was empty and one was 2 yrs old...i usually used my nebulizer just didnt before leaving last sun since we were running late...learned my lesson so i now make sure i have inhaler and epi pen up to date....i always have a steroid pack in my purse to take if breathing becomes difficult and benadryl and inhaler havent done the trick...i reserve the epi pen when all else fails.... i have the directions for the order to take if i am not able to commuicate the directions to others....
that is my emergency pack....each person is different based on your most immediate needs....

Thanks for the additional suggestions everyone! I have put together a long list of what I am going to ask him for and included some of your suggestions. Luckily he is a CVID specialist, or else he would probably think I was nuts. Hopefully he will be as flexible as my other doctor was to letting me keep meds at home so that I can start in on them right away and don't have to wait to see him first to get a prescription.
