Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

Thyroid problems?

Hi, Everyone: I have a question to ask you all, please. How many of you have had thyroid masses that have had to be removed? How many of you have had thyroid cancer? I was diagnosed with lymphocytic thyroiditis (Hashimoto's) in 2008 and I kind of thought it was a done deal because I am on thyroid medication but, over the weekend, I noticed that I had a golf ball size lump on the side of my throat. I am sick right now (another cold) so I thought perhaps it was a swollen lymph gland--wrong! It is a mass on my thyroid. My voice is really hoarse, too. My ENT thought that the two might be connected. Who knows? I have a really crummy cold.

I am being scheduled for a biospy as soon as my insurance will approve the procedure. I was just wondering, though--what now? How do they treat this?

I'm sorry to hear you are sick, I hope you start to feel better. I don't know anything concerning the thyroid cancer thing but I hope it's just an infection they can treat real quickly. I have had my thyroid become infected and it is painful as well as a pain in the butt.

Tina - sorry to hear this!! You're in my thoughts! I had a co-worker with a mass removed a few years ago. no big deal and easy recovery. Hoping the same for you!

I went to a new Nephrologist Wednesday (because my kidneys spill potassium and protein) and amongst the results he gave me, my TSH was 0.1, in other words, I am Hyperthyroid. Dont know why yet. He ordered some more tests to be done in the next six weeks and follow up in January. An US of the thyroid showed some nodules. No answer yet. But I will keep you posted... Tina, I hope you get better quickly. I always get normal results when my thyroid is tested, but my mom and oldest brother both have hypothyroid issues. My immunologist tested my thyroid recently, but I haven't heard the results yet. You're in my prayers!

I have to see and endocrinologist actually- my situation is weird the doctor felt a lump on my neck got an US done and was told the lump is a normal lump for me. I have had thyroid test done TSH mostly and it has come back normal every time. Then I got my T4 done and it came back low very low the first two times and then the third time it was just a little low. I got my T3 done as well and it's normal I have no idea what can be wrong when everything is normal except my T4 is idea? Well my prayers are out to you...for sure keep us update...we do care- we all understand health stuff and being sick just in different ways so you aren't alone on this journey/battle. Stay strong.

I was recently diagnosed with thyroid nodules. It was picked up on a CT scan of my lungs. The doctor ordered a biopsy, which was done by inserting a needle into the nodules and pulling out cells for testing. The tech numbed the area first and it was not a bad procedure. They were negative, but I am having all sorts of thyroid symptoms. I cannot seem to find a doctor will do anything about it though. I saw an endocrinologist and he simply felt my thyroid and said to see him in six months. No tests! Very frustrating!
