Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

Smart Water

I don't know if the Smart water made the difference or not but I feel great. I was sick going into this infusion which usually means a horrible few days. I am leaving tomorrow to go to India and was dreading the 24 hrs to get there after an infusion where I had to go on antibiotics the same day as my infusion (on Friday). I had decided this time to try drinking Smart water instead of just plain water to hydrate the day before, day of and two days after. I drank just over a gallon of smart water 1/2 at breakfast, 1/2 at dinner and regular water for lunch. On a good infusion I typically regain my energy sometime on Monday and have headaches and backaches on Saturday and Sunday. When I am sick going into an infusion I typically feel bad through Tuesday. This time I had almost no pain and my energy level increased this morning. I keep waiting to feel poorly but I don't. I will try the smart water again for my next few infusions to see if it is making the difference. If so, it should be renamed Miracle Water.

Yay! Good news....I always recommend Smart Water and/or Gatorade . For me, Gatorade after was the ONLY thing that would help get ride of the spinal migraines.

Im into the Gatorade now thanks to Kelli, and I feel great also! Thanks for the tip on smart water.

Awww Elizzza - so glad to hear it helps. I swear I think it has something to do with the sugar content in the Gatorade. I would do Smartwater before and Gatorade after. I did try smartwater AFTER but it never got rid of that spinal migraine...between that and slowing down the speed I was all good after :)

i think it is called smart water because they were so smart to get people to pay almost 2.00 a bottle for it!!!
could it really be that you are just drinking more water??not really the smart water????
i drink tap water ....after over 12 yrs of 4th grade field trips to the water treatment plant and the sewer treatment plant i trust my tap water better than any bottle...
if you are watching calories and like me dont like to drink your calories and prefer to eat them....powerade 0 is 0 calories with all the good stuff of gaterade and powerade...wish i had thought of smart water in a bottle....maybe next time....and i would be typing this from my traveling home as i toured every nook and cranny of the good ole US of A!

Smartwater is enhanced with eclectrolytes like gatorade but minus the sugar. I too wish I would have thought of something like this man, if we can come up with ONE idea, we could retire comfortably lol

buy a huge piece of property in a gentle environment IE not too cold not too hot smog free with a team of docs that get cvid..and open a cvid cult where we lived off the land (not me of course..i would just play with the well kids...i dont like sweat...)and took care of each other and our poor families that got stuck with an immune system defect!!!!!

good to know! I avoid gatorade because of the fake coloring...though I recently found a type of gatorade that didn't have the fake colors in it (they used beet juice instead, I think). too bad I forgot what type of gatorade that was...but glad to hear about the smart water!

The only electrolyte that (I'm aware of) is missing from smart water is sodium. You can find cheaper generic varieties at stores like Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and even Safeway that are just as good. When I was getting my infusions, I'd hydrate with 1/2 smart water and 1/2 gatorade. After awhile I started adding sodium to the smart water and drinking that instead of Gatorade to avoid the sugar.

Oh, the generic varieties are usually called "electrolyte water"....

My first infusion was awful, and then I read the posts about making sure to hydrate. I too drink Smart Water prior to and after each infusion and I have avoided most of the side effects. I am not sure if it is the Smart Water or not, but my husband and I agree I am not going to test that theory and stop drinking it to see what happens. :)

I always the day before drink at least 32 oz power aid zero, smart water zero or there's another one that has the electrolytes and then my regular amount of water most likely over 48 oz of water then day of before I get to the infusion center at least another 32 oz power aid zero, 16 oz smart water zero and then 48 oz water and that has helped keep the muscle pain lower and my headache pain down. When I haven't done this everything seems to hurt a lot more. I try to make sure I have no caffeine day before or of. I think I drink my usually amount post infusion which is usually a good amount of water.
