Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

sinus surgery

Hi All, I'm heading in for sinus surgery on Monday and have my Ivig on this Friday. Ivig has been no trouble, anything else that I should know about or do prior to Monday? My doc knows about the CVID but not sure he knows how close these two are scheduled together. I did have a tiny sore throat and ear ache yesterday and this morning but it seems fine now. (Thanks to the IVIG!) You guys are great!

I had sinus surgery 3 years ago (before I was diagnosed with CVID). It was the best thing I ever did. It took close to a year to see the full result of it but I would do it again in a heart beat!

Sinus surgery = HUGE BLESSING! I also had it prior to diagnosis but have had plenty of surgeries since :) The best thing is that your'e having your ivig BEFORE so you'll be loaded up with immune system! Can't think of anything unless it makes you sick, then I would say its too close to surgery. Good luck!

I agree, the best thing that has helped me recovering from surgery is to have IVIG prior. I always try to give myself 2 days to recover from IVIG to be on the safe side. I wish you good luck as well.

i am on an anti b all the time but if not when having any procedure done it is always a good idea to take an anti b ....before being on one daily i even took one when i had my teeth cleaned keeps the infections at bay...

i burned my hand slightly the other day taking something from the oven of course 2 wks later it is still a mess....for me anything.... injury, surgery, or procedure throws my body for a loop taking an anti b helps...my daughter with cvid is the same.....

sinus surgery was the best ever...(it did take me twice the time as a "norm" to get better) i cant remember when i had breathed so well......that was 3 yrs ago i really think it is time to get it cleaned out again!
