Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

Sinus Meds

Anyone take nasal sprays beyond Nasacort, etc? My ENT suggested 2 new sprays due to CVID diagnosis to prevent sinus infections. One is an anti-bacterial and one is an anti-fungal. Just wondering if anyone finds these helpful??

I didn't know they made those...I think a lot of us use the sinus washes.

I take Atrovent as a nasal spray...didn't know they make anti-fungals or antibacterials. Good to know! :)

By sinus washes, do you mean salt-water solution rinses? Just checking. The meds my ENT suggested are: Tobramycin and Kenolog/Triamcinolone. Spelling may not be right. These are compounds that are mixed by a company in Florida in the spray form. My insurance doesn't initally cover this (in spray form) and I need to call them back and find options.

My docs are against prophylactic antibiotics.
Like Keli and the others I've found the best solution to prevent sinus infections is the low tech Nedi pot sinus rinse every day with just the saline, nothing else.

I am a huge fan of the Neti Pot and just FYI, my doctor (who also suffers sinus infections) told me that latest studies show a drop of baby shampoo with the warm salt water works best.

I didn't know there were antibacterial and antifungal sprays either. Interesting.

My eye doctor has me wash my eyelashes with baby shampoo. He specified Johnson & Johnson No More Tears. It seems to work well.

I do the sinus washes every day too. Good preventative care!
