Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

Pneumonia

Last Tuesday (today is Monday) I saw my doc for another issue and had him check my chest because 6 day after a week of antibiotics I was starting to feel ill again.

Pneumonia.....he said my chest sounded horrible and gave me a week of amoxilcillin & clavulanate. I actually didn't feel too bad, just like I had a bad cold but since I was there and it was worse than the day before, I thought I get him to listen to my chest.

So fast forward 6 days later...the last two days I have felt terrible. My chest is raw & feels very mucus-y. I am tired and achy. My question is - is it the antibiotic, or is this heavy duty combo not hitting it ?

No fever or chills, barely any coughing. Glands are a little sore under my chin but my chest hurts worse than 2 days ago. Is it breaking up or getting worse ?

It is a holiday here in Canada today....if I need to I will go to the hospital or doc tomorrow...Any input is appreciated !!!!

So sorry you aren't feeling well. Pneumonia can be hard to kick, especially for the immune compromised. If you are feeling okay overall, no fevers, etc. I would call your doctor back in the morning to set up another follow up appointment. He may need another chest xray, and maybe some sputum samples to make sure it is just a generalized pneumonia and your not culturing something that would require more intense antibiotic therapy. However, if you are in respiratory distress, and have other symptoms that are unmanageable, it would be wise to seek urgent care. I hope you feel better soon.

I agree with glider......sounds like your lungs are wet, and the chest pain could be micro-fractures in the ribs from the earlier coughing fits. That's happened to me a few times when I've had bronchitis.

You didn't mention if you are on IgG infusions or not. If you aren't, I think you definitely need the ER or Urgent Care and that chest x-ray sooner than later! For us, it takes less than 10% of the amount of time it would take a healthier person for our illnesses to turn life-threatening!
