Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.
My PCP ordered a calcium score due to high cholesterol and family history of heart disease. The first read came back. This is the part concerning the lungs. This is the radiology report:
Anterior superior mediastinal densities. The patient should not
have residual thymus tissue at this time. To exclude developing thymus lesion
or evaluate for confluent small lymph nodes, I would suggest a CT of the chest
at 4 months for follow-up of this area.
With my history my PCP has refused to wait 4 months. She is sending me to a cardiothoracic surgeon.
Just about the time I come to terms with things, something else happens

I am scheduled to see cardio thoracic surgeon on the 24th. Please do not mention on facebook as a number of my family does not know. We figured until they make a definitive diagnosis there is no need to worry anyone. That being said I am scared sh**less. The surgeon wants a full CT of my chest before the appt. This doctor is a specialist in mediastinal tumors. The C word has been mentioned more than once throughout my CVID diagnosis now it has popped up again, Really scared. Thanks to all of you for being here.
Is your husband going to be able to go with you to your appointment? I know it helps me to have a support person. Please let me know if you need anything. I'm on vacation but my cell is on.
