Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

My health insurance is kind of up in the air very soon, not sure how soon. I may switch to my husbands plan, switch company's or loose health insurance while searching for a job... are there any resources so that I can keep my treatments going in a hardship or transition? Is CVID a per-existing condition that wont be covered if I switch insurances? Kelli???????

Yes ma'am there are. First, are you enrolled in your drug manufacturers Patient Assurance Program. All of them have one.

There is also Patient Services and NORD.

Thanks Kelli, this is awesome. I am not sure what is going on with my current position and when things might change but I do know that somewhere down the line, and possibly very quickly I have to change jobs/insurances. I was freaking out, but then decided to do something about it now instead of waiting until I had to jump ship. Just that choice made me feel a lot better. I will check all of this stuff out tonight. I will keep you posted. What is NORD?

I have switched insurance companies a few times in the past couple years. From Cigna to Blue Cross and Blue Shield. I never had any issues. Good Luck!

Hi All, I called my manufacturer today and they do have a patient assurance program where for every 3 treatments you receive you get a credit for a bonus treatment which can be used if you suddenly have no insurance! The sucky thing is that they can not count past treatments and my third one is tomorrow. Still not sure about the date that I will loose insurance, or or look for another job, but at least I am doing something about it! All you newbies... Take Kelli's advice and get on the program with your manufacturer! It could really help when you don't expect it! Thanks Kelli:)
