Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.
What were your specific symptoms? I'm questioning whether to continue with treatment. Has your doctor told you about other options for treatment?
Good luck!
I have had 11 infusions for CVID in the last 2 months. After every infusion, I have several reactions/symptoms. For the first 2 days, I am exhausted and I have minor flu-like symptoms. The third day I am ok and have more energy. The fourth day I have nausea and all the blood in my face is gone - I am so pale and white. On the fifth day, I feel a bit better and Day 6 and Day 7 are finally good days. I am wondering if this is a typical pattern. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
The day before my treatments, I drink A LOT of water. Then, I drink a lot of water the day of and for the next few days. Keeping hydrated is helpful. I can’t say smart water is any better than another brand. But, keep hydrated. On the day of my treatments, I get a bag of saline (1000ml) along with some premeds that include zodran (which is an anti nausea med), Motrin, Tylenol and benedryl and solucortef. These help me with side effects. I also have the privigen administered at a very slow rate - which also helps. I started getting treatments once a month but was still getting sick. I moved to every 3 weeks and am now at every 2 weeks.
