Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

h. Pylori

Has anyone gotten h. Pylori and had difficulty treating it?? I'm on my 4th round of antibiotics and my GI (who is awesome) seems like hes running out of options. I do get my second (really the first one) IVIg on Friday and Allergist says improved Igg levels should help me fight it.... Anyone else with similar prob?

I had H. Pylori and they treated it successfully the first time around. They gave me 1000mg of Clarithromycin and 2000mg of Amoxycillin (or was it the other way around?) and 40 mg of Prilosec. When they did the stool study to see whether the treatment was successful, there was no sign of it.

Sorry you're having problems, perhaps IVIG will help. I'd been on IVIG for about 5 months when I was diagnosed with H. Pylori.

I have had it for 5 years. I have tried tons of meds, several rounds of them, the meds even made me sick. Then I found out that I also have small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, or SIBO. Thats why it was so hard for me to get rid of the bacteria. You should really ask your doctor about being tested for it. After I did that medication, and the h. Plyori meds, things weren't perfect, but much better.

If you have diahrea issues I suggest you take 2 immodium every morning. That has been working well for me.

Thanks for the tip! Do you know if SIBO can be detected with a colonscopy? I've had 2 and wondering if they would have caught that already. I will definitely ask about it. thanks

I noticed you are being treated at Mayo, I am as well, I was dx in April and have been doing sub q treatments since May. Wondering who your doc is there, and did they check you for Ciliac disease? I had a couple stomach biopsies, didn't find Ciliac or bacteria, but discovered a large ulcer that I didn't even know I had.
