Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.
So I spoke with nurse today and my IgG levels have gone up into acceptable ranges (ideal is 6-16, I am sitting at 10....don't know what the units are).
So, basically, I passed the lab test but nothing else has changed.
Real life - I have another sinus cold (thanks kids ;-) ) and feel like I have been run over by a truck...sore sore joints. Yesterday I took the kids to school & came back home & slept. Very achy. Today the sinuses are plugged & the chest thing is starting up.
I am so frustrated ! I go back to work next week after more than a month off (pool shutdown)...a little scared if I can manage it. I only work part time. I thought this time off would get things settled down, lots of rest, etc.
Grrr....do we ever feel better ?!?!??!?!

First off, it is a very big deal that your IgG numbers are in normal range!!! Awesome!
I know you have an infection now, and feel lousy, (and I'm about to say the type of positive thing that makes me want to duct tape people's mouths shut), but think what that infection and your sinus' would be like if your IgG were below range...Likely you'd be in the hospital,,,so you feel like crap, but you get to do it at home!

Seriously, IVIG is all baby steps...Your numbers are in range, that's a victory. Celebrate it.
Unfortunately, even with IVIG, we can still get sick, and that bites. Now it takes a good 6 months to a year to get the full effects of IVIG, so it may just be a matter of patience...and that is hard, You wait so long to get the DX, and to finally start treatment, only to get sick again. NOT fair.
It's normal to wonder it you'll manage work and CVID next week, but that is next week. Right now, get to the Doc, see if you need antibiotics, lots of fluids, keep an eye on the chest stuff, and rest as much as you can between now and starting work again.
We will all send "Get healthy vibes" now, and when it gets closer, we will all be here to cheer you on as you get ready for that first day back at work :)

It's hard to celebrate a lab result when you still feel like you have been run over by a truck...but I know, baby steps & celebrate the little things. I just wish there was a better guide book for all this (the variable part doesn't help!).
