Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

It seems like there was another area of my body that I had tendonitis in too, but I can't remember what. I know I've had problems from sprains and tendon rips too, but those were from falls and things like that.
she was dx with cvid in her freshman yr of college after a bout of scarlett fever.
now she is in pharm school...she has found she is able to have less go wrong with her muscles cycling instead of running... i personally think the wear and tear is easier on the body cycling than running. she still runs and cycles to keep her stress under control and she thinks it helps with the daily aches and pains.
she is 23
looking back i strongly believe cvid was the root to her difficulties. i think the excess stress on the body caused by extreme sports is worse for cvid people than others. "normal" people have trouble with their body keeping up think how hard it is on bodies that already dont work correctly.....
just my thoughts
hope this helps...
All of these injuries were WEIRD in my opinion, and VERY slow to heal. I am convinced it has to have something to do with my CVID status. I will ask the immunologist about it next week when I have my first appointment.
ALSO .... here's something interesting ... way back in 2001, I had something happen to me that landed me in the hospital. It started out with general achiness all over - sort of flu-like. But after a couple of days, it turned into terrible muscle pain. It felt like I had exercised all of my muscles to their maximum capacity and they were just HURTING all over. After about 4 days of this, I took myself to the ER and they discovered that my CPK level (muscle enzyme) was in the 600 range!! Normal is 40-170. Needless to say they admitted me as they were worried about kidney damage, organ failure, etc. Over the course of the following week my CPK level came down and got back to normal ... but I NEVER got an answer from my doctor as to what that was all about!! Most likely a virus, but who knows? Has anyone outt here ever had a similiar experience?
Thanks Tamiller for posting your comments and questions. You are definitely NOT alone! ;-)
I really haven't been able to run outside for close to a year. I can usually run on the treadmill ok, if I stretch well before and after. Pconville, I recently got a 2nd hand bike, paid $100 to have it tuned up, but have yet to ride it because of my tendonitis. As soon as that is healed, I plan to start riding it, however, it has been 20+ years since I've ridden a bike (other than the stationary ones in the gym)!
I'm definately going to talk to my doctor when I see him in a couple of weeks about all this. I'm also going to ask him about Sub-Q as well.
Again, I can't thank you all enough! I've had this stupid disease for 5 years now, without knowing much about it. Now, I feel like I have a reason for why all these things are happening to my body!
