Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

We had a week vacation planned for our 25th anniversary. Left Sunday the plan was 4 nights in pigeon forge and 3 nights at the in laws in Alabama. For the first time I would attempt to infuse away from home. Well by the second day I was wiped out. I also started to chicken out about doing infusion away from home. We left pigeon forge early and came home from Alabama yesterday. Infusion completed tonight at home. I am just nervous about infusion away from home. We did have a great time. This is really the first trip since treatment was started so I guess that is one step towards the new "normal".

Hi sfear, good for you in not adding extra stress. With all my travels, I haven't infused away from home yet. I have my regular infusion day on Friday which works great for my work travel since I usually come home Thursday or Friday. If I get in too late I can move it to Saturday. And I also moved it early to Friday when I've traveled on the weekend. That is what I love about subq, the ability to move my infusion date a little to accommodate my life. Maybe that can help next time you try a trip. Glad you and your husband got a couple days anyway. - Zen

Hey Stacey, I've also never infused away from home except for in the doctor's office. I must admit, it makes me nervous too. We are planning to go to the beach for eight days in September, so I'll have to infuse at the beach. I think Gammagard makes a subq travel kit. If they do, I'm going to request one. I'm glad you and your hubby we're able to get away for a bit.

I love Pigeon Forge and go there often. I love the Tanger outlets and meeting up with my boyfriends Ben and Jerry! :)

I'm so glad you got away for a bit. I do IVIG, so not an issue for me yet. I plan to move to sub q after a few more IVIG's. I can understand being a bit nervous, but you made a step forward and it was a big one.

So I hope you are giving yourself credit for being willing to try to do it away from home. Like I said, that in itself is a big step forward. I don't know how long you have been doing it. I am very new at the igg and I applaud you for this big step!

I'm glad you had a good time and got away for awhile. Good for you!

Aww Happy Anv. 25 years is just huge. Hubby and I have been discussing how marriage in its self seems to be going out. The young kids cant get there benefits most times if they are married. More and more chose to say vows but never legally marry. Kinda sad if ya ask me. Congratulations.
