I have had them done several times. I have pancreatic insufficiency that can cause me to get acute episodes of pancreatitis. They look at that in me. They can check the gall bladder which can be complicated by various things. I've had kidney stones before, and they can see those. They can get some good pictures on the basic functions of all that. If your having GI issues, they may be seeing if one of these other organs may be the actual source of your discomfort. We often blame pain in the abdominal area on stomach upset, when there could potentially be other factors. Hope the results are good!

Yep, have had them like glider said they look at the spleen, liver, kidney, gallbladder & pancreas...If you have gall stones it will show.

Like Glider I suffer from pancreas problems, mine was caused from a caused from a septic gallbladder...So you need to be careful.

My doctors all say once on IVIG you shouldn't get the infections like you did before you started IVIG..

I have also had several. My gallbladder had been acting crazy for years and I kept having ultrasounds that showed nothing. Finally I went to the ER of all places and they told me that they were sure it was my gallbladder, so they sent me to a surgeon. He did a HIDA scan and saw that my gallbladder was only 21% functional, so it had to come out. I have not missed it at all. I vomited all the time and after I got rid of the gallbladder, I quit vomiting.

On one of the scans I had for the gallbladder, they found a lesion on my liver that hadn't been on previous scans. They were concerned that it was cancer, but thought it was probably a hemangioma. After the insurance took three months to approve a CT with contrast, it was gone. Evidently it wasn't cancer, but my PCP said it couldn't have been a hemangioma either or it would still be there. We still don't know what it was, but it is gone so it doesn't really matter.

They also suspect kidney issues with me, but nothing has ever shown up on an ultrasound. The only thing in my blood work that makes them think that is my potassium/sodium ratio. One doctor told me that when potassium is low, sodium should be high. My potassium is almost always low but my sodium is never high and is sometimes low. No one has tried to figure out what is going on there.

Anyway, all of that goes to say that there are a lot of things that they can check for with an ultrasound. I pray that your results are helpful and good!

I have had several ultrasounds and as glider said, they can be looking at many things in upper abd. I seem to remember having to turn slightly to my side for the kidneys?

I hope they find the answers they are looking for and sympathize with your stomach stuff. I have it also and it has gone on so long it is normal to me It is a reminder to have it checked out.

Ultrasounds on the right side, just below the rib cage will give images of the liver and gallbladder, left side will provide images for the spleen and pancreas, which is located from your left side and runs behind your stomach. And your kidneys are on both sides of your spine.

I have had images taken of my gallbladder, liver and pancreas, which have all been normal and I get regular imagines taken of my spleen as it is very enlarged. Enlarged Spleen is a common condition of CVID and that along with my enlarged lymph nodes and fatigue makes me feel like I have had mono for 5 the last five years.
