Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

Confusion

I am very confused over a lot of things. As I said I was diagnosed with CVID a little over a year ago. My doctor also ran an ANA that came back positive. My anti-histones were high. My pcp sent me to rheumy. He said I had fibromyalgia. I have read a lot in the feeds about neg ANA, but has anyone experienced anything similar to this?

You sound just as 'turned around' as most of us do. I literally feel like just when I think I have a handle on another aspect of this disease {CVID}, something else pops up. And usually with few answers.

My first rheumy didn't run the ANA sub-panels, which are supposed to be a bit more accurate for us PIDDers. But I just don't know anymore. I definitely, absolutely have autoimmune responses to everything it seems, but he couldn't pin it down. So I am seeing a new one soon.

Has yours begun any new medication for you? What other symptoms are you dealing with, and are you on IgG replacement?

Recently I have noticed a rash on my cheeks and nose. It gets worse in the sun and with stress. My joints and muscle ache on and off. The worst is prob the fatigue. I also have a B12 deficiency. Of course this is beside catching every cold and infection that comes across the my path.

Fibromyalgia is not diagnosed by an ANA, but by chronic pain with cerain tender areas. I think further testing needs to be done before you get blown off like that! I have fibro as well as osteroarthritis so the pain is real, but He/She needs to investigate further into your symptoms. Butterfly rash and joint pain is associated with lupus so tell them you want more detailed testing.
