Perhaps you are a little bisexual? Or even heterocurious? Want to know what is even more surprising? That is okay! Human sexuality is not something to be controlled or steered. It is an innate aspect of a person governed by hormones, body chemistry and emotions. You didn't turn gay, no matter what your mother suggests. It doesn't work that way. That is not to say that your original self identity was correct.
Just to be safe, please do not allow your mother to project her own insecurities on to you. While a former boyfriend may have broken your heart, he didn't break your sexual orientation. No matter how well intentioned your mother may have been, please don't take her notion to heart.
If you suddenly find yourself attracted to a guy, by all means explore it. Same for a girl. If you are unsure of where you are on the sexual spectrum, then why cram yourself into a label? Just make healthy decisions and try to enjoy your process of self discovery.
I did have one relationship right before I realized that I was gay that was pretty traumatic. I often wonder myself if I "turned" because of that, but I try not to dwell on it. I agree with john12as. Only you can answer whether or not you are gay. If you find yourself able to have feelings for both men and women, you may be bisexual. You have to live your life as YOU in order to figure out who YOU are. I am 25, going on 26, and I am still learning about who I am.
Self discovery is a lifelong quest, it is always evolving. Labels are for other people to "organize" where they think you fit in their "world view". The only label you should worry about is "insert your name here"! Be yourself, no one else can.
I am struggling a little with this myself, accepting yourself. I think it is wise to "come out" to yourself before trying to come out to others.
In direct answer to your question, yes.
In reality, the only normal thing is that we're all different. Therefore she should be ourselves, and that takes time to find out, and each person needs to do this. Anyways, I don't' really think there's not way you can "turn" gay suddenly...You either have the attractions or you don't. Sure the first time you realize you have them you might think this but it doesn't sound like it. I 've gone back and fourth many times in my younger years, and sometimes still, if i am actually attracted to women or not. Do I think women are beautiful, YES!! There are plenty of hot women and men out there. HOWEVER...I am emotionally, and physically attracted to men. There have been times where I get jealous, even though i'm not typically a jealous person, when i see a guy I like, getting hit on by other ppl. That is what apart of being gay is, you experience all of these emotions that typically come with being attracted to someone.
Hope this helps.
