sadly there is only one thing for it and that's to just do it. If she has made hints she is okay with it, then you should be fine. You could use the upcoming supreme court ruling to test the waters and bring it up. Its pretty hot in the news so it might open the door and you can see how she feels on the whole thing. Really there are 3 possibilities that will come out of it. Frist she will be resistant, I doubt this will be the case based on what you have said, second, she will be middle of the road, Not liking or disliking the idea in which case you are safe but may have to make some concessions (not telling certain members of the family or something like that), third, she will be happy for you and wish you the best in it. This is probably the best chance as it sounds like she may already have an idea that you are. In which case she just wants you to be happy. I really think things will go okay when you tell her, but I also understand how scary it is to do this, especially when there isn't really a good opening to start up the chat. Thank you WyndWytch for your response. It has helped to ease a bit of the anxiety. Tonight there's no backing out of talking to her. She knows theres a lot going on in my life (i also cut when stress gets high) that i haven't told her. Last night i said i thought i was finally ready to talk. So now shes expecting it. I'm still trying to decide if it's best to have my sister with me or not for the conversation because she knows everything.

I would probably do it alone. The more relaxed the setting the better and more honest her reaction will be. If she knows your sister is for it, she is less apt to show resistance openly which could lead you to feel she is okay with it. I don't believe that you will have to really worry about that, but just something to consider. You might mention that your sister has known that way your mom knows there is someone else she can talk to about it. Obviously she could talk to you but may worry some questions she may have might upset you, so your sister would be a good option for a sounding board. I know my family has been doing this mainly because I am told they do after the fact. They will ask me directly about something and then say they had talked it over with someone else before asking to make sure it wouldn't upset me kind of thing. As yet my family has not upset me once with anything they have asked. It sounds like your mom might already have an inkling about your orientation - parents just often do. You sound quite close, so I'm sure you could easily bring it up casually, like WyndWytch suggested. Even if it takes her some time to come around, you'll definitely feel less anxious having gotten the weight off your chest.

I never did "come out" per say. I just always had boy friends. I held hand with my friend. I hugged a lot. I kissed my friends, boy and girl. I have had many sleepovers with only guys.
