Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

My ex had colon cancer stage 3 he had the surgery, in which they removed his rectum. He has had chemo and radiation and right now I assume he is in remission. He did not have to have a colostomy. His treatments ended last July. Now he is going to the bathroom constanly. Everytime we go out for any meal we have to head straight back home because of this. Is this one of the side effects of CA, or would it more likly be something else has flared up. Please let us know if anyone is experiencing the same thing..

Giday MS I too had my rectum removed followed by chemo though I did have a bag for 3 months before having a reversal.

After the reversal I had frequent movements as well as little mishaps but as time has gone on I am getting more and more control though nowhere near pre op.

I still find depending on what I eat the movements increase, therefore, I do watch what I eat and those things that I love that do cause more frequent movement ie curry/chilli I just plan them out and make sure I am close to the dunny.

One thing I use is physillium husk which helps to regulate me and helps me live a more 'normal' life.

My husband also has issues with timing. Sometimes he has 30 minutes sometimes 6 hours. You never know which. It is getting better with time. (He's 6 months post surgery). Immodium also helps slow things down. Sometimes we linger at the table and then he uses the bathroom before we leave the restaurant. He has a friend who also has had surgery. He calls it the "30 minute dash"

I dont have this problem but have a friend that does. It really suck but you just have to plan your date around it. What she does is go to the movie or shopping..whatever they want to do first before going out to eat that way is not only eat and home.

Thanks so much for the input. Doing errands first is a great idea. I was afraid something new might be developing. To know others have experienced this same side effect takes some of the anxiety of something new away. We are all in this together and the support is awesome, thanks for sharing.
