Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
The 16th February last year was my 45th birthday, i got some lovely gifts and cards, my husband sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers to work, went out for dinner with my family,basically a lovely day. The day after 17th February 2010, a doctor told me i had colon cancer.
It turned out to be stage 3, even though the tumour was small it had spread to my lymph nodes, and i was told it was aggressive and there was 40-45% chance i would not be here in 5 years.
So got on the rollercoaster we all know as cancer, and couldn't get off. Within 3 months I had gone from a great life to having a resection, chemo, tablets for this creams for that, mouthwashes, trying to eat and live as healthy as possible, not being able to hardly move with fatigue, I was at an all time low.
It is now august 2011, am now clear of cancer, back at work living my life to the full, travelling doing the things I've wanted to do, appreciating the smallest of things in life, and last week was told i was gonna become a grandma.
For anyone out there whose just been told they have cancer, or for anyone having treatment and thinking how will i cope with 8, 10 or even 12 rounds of this poison being pumped into your body, there is life after cancer, unfortunately not for everyone but there could be for you, hang in there and keep strong.

I was diagnosed a stage IV and am currently clean and healthy as well. I pray daily that it remains that way. There is always hope, staying positive is the key!
Such illnesses are truly a 'one small step at a time' journey while just releasing as much of the heartache and fear as is possible.
