Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
I fully get the anything is a possible re-occurrence not sure there would be many here who have not had that fear. Every time I find a little lump I think it is the end.
Not sure what the situation is for you in the US as for having scans but a PET scan can show cancer. This link is a bit of info about them

Please try not to worry, because now a days insurance plans are also there to be help cancer patients.
