Kate, most people go through this chemo journey without much trouble, you will most likely be one of them. But, you may want to be prepared for your days to be not so great. Sorry to report to you that mine were not good. I had a pretty rough time through all of my 12 treatments starting the very first day of my very first treatment. As you know everyone reacts differently, one week you may be worst that others, the next may not be so bad. You are on my prayer list.

As GG said all react differently, my chemo treatment consisted soley of xeloda which I did with no drama. I too will have you in my prayers. G8

I was on the folfox tx for the last 2 years. 6 weeks on 2 off. And had 6 months of treatment when I was first dx in 2002. I usually did well the first 3 treatment then the last 3 it was worse..by the last in the cycle I was ready for my 2 weeks off! If it is unmanagable tell you doctor and they will cut back on the dose just a little or add more anti meds. It's better to make the treatments managable than to make yourself so weak that you have to be taken off the treatment. I have been at this for almost 8 years and have been on every colon cancer chemo drug made, I have had more long term success with the 5=fu/ leuc. than any other. It's by far the easiest to take. CPT 11 was the hardest after 3 treatments I told my doctor that I'd rather die than take it anymore. It was that bad!

I almost forgot..after being on the folfox for a coulple of months it did seem to get easier for me. What kind of nausea meds are you on?

Hi Kate, I had Folfox and yep, my third sucked, but it did get easier. Nausea was constant, but my first night was the worst. After that, I got some good anti-nausea drugs (Pramin) and that regulated it. I grew tired, and more the mental weariness.

People power is good for inspiration and a kick in the pants. So stick around here. I did have to keep telling myself "It will pass" and kept up some positive affirmations. I'm a year into remission, and it's a journey I had to take to ensure my best odds. I too will keep you in my prayers. God bless. CM x

I have been doing Folfox since July 2009. The first six treatments were hard for me, but then my body seemed to adjust and now I have very few side effects. They have removed the Oxy since I have horrible neuropathy. However, I no longer have any other side effects except being tired the first day of treatment. Mostly due to the pre-meds they give me. Everyone is different, but after talking with others it seemed to get easier as treatment progresses.

I am somewhat better today, 6 days later. My mom (I'm so lucky to have my mom! She lives in my in-law apartment. She is a strong 81 years young. I can't shake the feeling I'm in a Shirley Mclaine movie!) gave me a banana and orange juice yesterday and with the imodium, I stopped feeling shakey. I bet I lost potassium and let the diahrrea go on for too long.
