I had my port put in on Thursday and boy, is it ever sore! I'm told that I had a conversation with surgeon ( while I was still asleep, and I don't remember any of it! LOL!) he said there was a lot of fat when he put it and if the nurses can't find the port, to have them call him. Huh?

I can't see or feel the port at all. Has anybody experienced nurses not being able to find their port? I'm supposed to go for an iron infusion on Friday.Guess I'll find out then.....

Giday R, I did not have a port so can not help on that front but wishing you all the best for Thursday and that the nurses have no difficulties in finding your port. G8

I've had two ports installed in my lifetime and bot times it was easily seen and found - the port goes under the skin. I'm not sure what your surgeon is talking about but I would call and get clarification. You should be able to see and feel the port, maybe he put it in another location. Best of luck to you.

Rhoni, I can't be for sure but if you were given Versed, you will talk under that anesthetic. It is like amnesia, if you don't remember, then the pain did not happen.

Maybe you are a bit fearful about feeling for your port? I am sure the IV techs will find it with no problems.
You cannot count on anything you said or discussed while getting your port put in.
(If true the Surgeon would have waited until the sedative had worn off to explain it to you)
Probably some swelling is making it hard to see this early?
Keep us posted on what happens.

my port was easy to find.
They gave me a topical lidocane to put on about 1/2 hour before hook up. That helped to ease the pain. As I got later in my treatments, it got easier and if I forgot the lidocane in the end, it was ok. I must have toughened up!

Also, the port site was sore at first but my neck vein was even more sore for a few days.

One more thing, it came out really easy without much soreness after. Gives you something to look forward to!

My nurses seem to have difficulty every time I've had treatment (5 treatments so far). They have me lay flat and raise my arm of the side the port is and turn my head (not sure if turning the head is relevant). I can see and feel my port so not sure why the nurses have such an issue of utilizing it.
