Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

I had one when first diagnosed and not a real drama, from memory they inject a dye into you that is attached to sugar, the cancer cells consume the sugar and the dye then shows up in the scan. From memory had a cathater in during the process and that was the most discomfort from the scan the inserting of the needle, more in the head than any pain if you get my drift.

Kate all in all there was no big drama with the pet scan I had, good luck for your scan will have you in my thoughts. G8

It is just like a Ct scan only it takes alot longer, you have to get the dye ran first then wait for a little while. Nothing to it just take something to read because is kinda boring.

There is nothing to be afraid of in a pet scan--- its just a long test. You can ask them for something to relax you---- they always give me ativan to relax me and I just sleep through the test

I've had 3 - just had one last week. An injection of 'nuclear medicine" is given then you sit quietly for about 30 minutes, the actual test only took about 25 minutes. It's a breeze - while I was in the "tube" I planned out the evening meal - in my head of course! The trick is to keep your brain busy and not think about what is going on or where you are. Mind over matter.
